Fine Tune Your PPC Campaigns for the Holidays!

Santa Claus is coming to town! 

The biggest holiday of the year for online entrepreneurs is just around the corner. Make sure that Santa makes a stop at your home biz by fine tuning your Pay Per Click campaigns before this season’s spending splurge!

If you ever need to make the most of your marketing and advertising strategies, it’s between now and Christmas.

To get your piece of the ecommerce holiday pie, here are some tips to help make sure your PPC campaigns are maximized to the utmost:

  • Take a look at the keywords that perform best for you, and consider adding on an add group with holiday focused keywords such as “Christmas” “holiday” “Hanukkah” “Santa Claus” or possibly “gift.” These fall into the category of long tail keywords. For example, if your regular keyword is “flowers”, then your keyword phrase during the holidays would be something like “holiday flowers” or “Christmas flowers.” Tweak your landing pages appropriately for holiday traffic, and this will help your search ranking. 

  • Take time to look over your PPC ad groups for last year, and pay attention to conversion rates, click through rates, and the cost per click. This will help give you a better idea exactly how to approach your PPC campaigns this year.

  • Labor Day is the first unofficial beginning date of the holiday season. Halloween is the second. So, there is no time to waste in getting all of your holiday ducks in a row this year. Now is a good time to find out if you’ve been paying too much for PPC by bidding too much for keywords. Put this to the test by finding out the best click through rate and cost per click. You can do this by lowering your bid price in small increments at a time---$.05 or $.10, and allowing those ads to run for a week or so to see what sort of click though and conversion rates you get. If you’re doing just as well with lower bids, why pay more than you have to?

  • Be sure and update your PPC ad text to reflect holiday keywords and groups. Pepper your web pages with holiday themed copy, too!
