SEO for eBay: How to Get Your Listings Seen by More Buyers

Now that eBay has made yet another change and dumped thousands upon thousands of store listings into the main search, it is going to be even more difficult than ever to get your auctions and Fixed Price listings seen.

It’s elementary, really---if nobody sees what you’re selling, nobody will buy what you’re selling.

If you aren’t already using SEO techniques in your eBay listings, it’s time to start! eBay has its own search, and using Search Engine Optimization will help you to get more visibility for your wares.

What Can You do To Improve eBay SEO?

First and foremost: Write great titles using SEO!

Your title is the biggie when it comes to getting seen on eBay. Good photos and an accurate description are vital to selling success as well as getting the best price for your widgets. But the listing title reigns supreme as the single most important thing in being found and seen.

You want to make sure that you make the most of every character in your title. Like Twitter posts, you are limited to how many characters you are allowed in an eBay title.

Actually, Twitter gives you 140 characters to get your message across and eBay only gives you 55 for your title. So, you need to write a title that packs a punch as succinctly as humanly possible.

Besides being brief, your title needs to utilize good keywords.

There are an unbelievable number of sellers on eBay who write awful titles! If you look at their completed sales for a two week period, you will almost always see that the items sold by these folks don’t fetch as good a price as similar items sold by sellers who wrote great titles.

For example, if you do a search in the Women’s Intimates category, you’ll probably see quite a few listings with this title or one very similar: “Women’s Button Front Sleep Shirt With Matching Long Pants.”

Ummm…..isn’t that pajamas?

Look at all those words wasted conveying what the seller is offering when one little word would have done it much, much better!

If you need help writing fantastic titles, go to the eBay Research Labs BayEstimator. It’s free and is enormously helpful! You simply type a title into the search box, click submit, and the estimator will return a whole set of results that show you the numbers on how popular your title words are in an eBay search.

You can then add, subtract or exchange words in your title to optimize it, and the BayEstimator will tell you exactly how much you have improved your title.

Any eBay seller can use this free tool and it works quite efficiently for everyone from dropship sellers to garage sale sellers!

Seems like the title is the key. I only wish they gave you more characters to work with - I always seem to run out of space
