Ecommerce Dropship Tips: SEO for Dummies

SEO for dummies dropship ecommerceIf you are just getting started in ecommerce and have already launched your dropship home business or are in the process of doing so, you might appreciate a little bit of basic SEO information….SEO for Dummies, if you will.

Mind you, nobody is really calling you a dummy! But, if you are a newbie to the world of online commerce and marketing, you must admit to being a bit of a dummy in that one particular area.

Everybody has to take that first baby step to start the learning process and you will find that once you get a little more involved in ecommerce and start understanding the basic principles of SEO, slowly but surely it will all start falling into place and you’ll begin to understand what it’s all about.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means making it easier for the search engines such as Google to find your products or your website. If the search engines can’t find your dropship products, it will be almost impossible to generate enough traffic to make the sales you will need to make in order to realize a good profit on your business.

There is a popular saying on the web about Google, the largest search engine that is popular and oft’ repeated simply because it is true: If you don’t exist with Google, you don’t exist. That’s about the size of it!

So, you need to use SEO to optimize your content in order to make it easy for Google and the other search engines to find you and include your website or dropship products in their SERPs, which means Search Engine Results Pages.

Using Basic SEO

In the beginning, once you familiarize yourself with the basic tenets of SEO and have gained a working knowledge to be getting on with, start with your ground floor:

  • Landing Pages
  • Home Page
  • Headers
  • Image Descriptions
  • Page Titles
  • Categories
  • Product Descriptions
  • Links
  • Navigation
  • Content

Determine your best keywords and use them wisely in the areas noted above. In addition, provide the search engines with fresh, relevant content as often as possible. You can do this by adding pages about your products, for example, that are interesting and informative; or any number of ways. The main thing is to add the fresh content and work your prime keywords in at a ratio of about 10 keywords per 500 words of content. This comes out to about 2%, which is what Google prefers.

You may also find it very helpful to attend a few free webinars on SEO to help you find your way.

Once you have mastered basic SEO, don’t relax and rest on your laurels! This is an area of your dropship business that will require ongoing education, so make it a point to carve out a little time for it at least once a month or so.

Using SEO wisely will mean the difference between success and failure for your ecommerce dropship home business!
