Dropship Providers: The Good, The Bad & the Ugly

dropship providersIf you are considering getting into an online home business in ecommerce, it might pay to take a few minutes to look at dropship providers: the good, the bad and the ugly.

One thing that we should firmly establish right up front when talking about dropship providers is this: Your home ecommerce dropshipping business will only be as good as your dropship provider.

It all hinges on that provider of dropship products.  If your dropship product supplier isn’t everything it should be, it won’t matter how hard you work, how many sales you make, how effective your marketing or promotions or in fact---anything else that you might do to make your business profitable and successful.

If your provider fails, so will you. Count on it.

How to Know a Good Dropship Provider

There are quite a few factors that go into making dropship providers good. Here are some things that you should look for when looking around at good, dependable dropship providers:

  • Good dropship providers will not offer “free” services and then pad the price of each product until you can’t possibly hope to make a profit.
  • Good dropship providers will give you genuine wholesale prices.
  • Good dropship providers will have a large selection of products.
  • Good dropship providers will offer brand name and/or high quality products.
  • Good dropship providers will provide free educational resources to help you start and run your dropshipping home business.
  • Good dropship providers will always let you know if inventory is low so that you don’t make customers mad by overselling and then having to cancel orders.
  • Good dropship providers are established businesses with a high rating from the Better Business Bureau.
  • Good dropship providers are set up and integrated with such venues as ProStores and eBay.

So, there you have a very good idea of what to look for in dropship  providers.

Bad Dropship Providers

Bad dropship providers can cause your home dropship business to go belly up before you know what hit you.

Well, there are a lot of reasons, but we’ll look at a few of the most important ones for the purpose of illustrating how bad dropship providers can ruin any chance you might have of success in ecommerce.

First of all, bad dropship providers have crummy products. Can you imagine the storm of negativity this would stir up when your customers, who trusted you to send them first rate merchandise, receive something that looks like it came from a Cracker Jack box?

You’d be swamped with returns and more bad publicity than you could hope to overcome in nothing flat.

Here is another really bad thing: dropship providers who fail to send Low Stock notices and allow you to go on blissfully selling products that will not be available to ship.

This is bad any time of the year but when it happens during the holidays, brace yourself. Your customers are going be to be furious when you have to cancel their orders.

More bad PR and more refunds.

If you’re selling on eBay or Amazon, it won’t take much of this stuff to get you enough bad feedback to get your seller privileges revoked or suspended.

At that point, you’d be out of business.

So, choose good dropship providers and don’t hitch your home business wagon to the wrong star if you want to be successful!

If you've had direct knowledge (have done or are currently in the business)I would like to hear from you, as I have a few questions.
