Sales Forecast 2012: Getting Your Dropship Website Holiday Ready

dropship website holiday readyWith the winter holidays---and big online shopping boom---right around the corner, you may appreciate some info and tips to help get your dropship website in good order and ready for all that extra holiday traffic.

No savvy ecommerce entrepreneur underestimates the importance of the winter holiday season. If you’ve had a bit of a slow year, holiday sales can be a shot in the arm and boost your bottom line to bring annual sales totals up level with what you had planned to reach.

If you’ve had a good year and your online dropship website has been going great guns, flooded with traffic and making lots of sales, that’s wonderful. Holiday sales can be the frosting on the cake!

According to the latest predictions, there is just enough improvement in the economy to help holiday season shopping this year. Here are some factoids current as of yesterday:

  • The NRF predicts that holiday sales this year will increase 4.1 percent, up to 586.1 billion-- that’s just above the 10 year average of 3.5 percent growth for annual holiday sales increases, but down from the 5.6 percent growth figure for holiday sales in 2011.

  • Consulting firm Deloitte recently issued a forecast for retail sales for the November through January period of 2012 to rise between 3.5 percent and 4 percent.

  • Retailers’ holiday sales projections and hiring plans show they are more confident in economy, Hay Group said. Seventy-five percent of retailers expect an increase in holiday sales this year, according to their recent survey.

  • Holiday shoppers are expected to continue to move online to do their purchases, according to the NRF’s new data.

  • The group predicts online holiday sales will grow 12 percent over last year’s figure. Total online spending this holiday season is estimated to be between $92 billion and $96 billion. The Commerce Department estimated that e-commerce in the last quarter of 2011 increased 15 percent from the year before. “Online retail has been a bright spot for years and we don’t expect that trend to change anytime soon, especially with the growth in mobile shopping,” said NRF’s Shay.
