What are Radar Detectors?

If you drive a car, chances are you’ve at least heard of radar detectors.

Once again, for a simple but very good explanation of what a radar detector is and what it does, we turn to the online free encyclopedia, Wikipedia:

“A radar detector is an electronic device used by motorists to detect if their speed is being monitored by police or law enforcement using a radar gun. Most radar detectors are used so the driver can reduce the car's speed before being ticketed for speeding. Only Doppler-radar-based devices can be detected — other speed measuring devices including those using ANPR, piezo sensors, and VASCAR technology cannot be detected. LIDAR devices require a different type of sensor, although many modern detectors include LIDAR sensors. Most of today's radar detectors detect signals across a variety of wavelength bands.”

In other words, radar detectors are used by drivers who don’t want to get a speeding ticket, or who want some advance warning of a radar gun in the vicinity.

Needless to say, as speeding tickets are usually exorbitantly expensive, plus often causing your car insurance rates to go up, radar detectors are tremendously popular devices with a healthy market for sales.

One thing to keep in mind is that a radar detector and a radar jammer are two entirely different things. In most states in the US, a radar detector is legal to have in your car, whereas a radar jammer is not.

Aren’t Radar Detectors Yesterday’s News?

No way! Millions of radar detectors are soled in the United States very year, and a lot more globally. In fact, the radar detectors of today are much more sophisticated than the original devices.

Today, many radar detectors have built-in GPS and are alert to radar and laser signals. These modern devices can also warn drivers when they are approaching intersections known to have speed traps, red light cameras and/or fixed speed cameras.  These types of cameras are all available in public records, and companies can compile the data. Then, it’s just a simple matter of downloading the “hot spot” locations into your radar detector.

Who Uses Radar Detectors?

A lot of people! Here are juts a few of the groups of drivers who use radar detectors:

  • Sales people who are on the road a lot
  • Anyone who travels a lot
  • Anyone who doesn’t want to get a ticket

It is important to note that radar detectors are legal in 49 states. Federal low prohibits the use of radar detectors in commercial vehicles weighing over 10,000 pounds.

If you want a profitable niche, dropship radar detectors for a profitable ecommerce home business!
