Hot SEO Tips for Your Home Dropship Business

SEO home dropship businessAre you interested in some hot SEO tips for your home dropship business?

Although some believed that Google’s Panda and Penguin algorithm updates meant the death of SEO, nothing could be further from the truth. SEO is very much alive and kicking and if yours isn’t up to par, it will cost you money!

If you are new to ecommerce, you might be wondering what SEO is. Here, direct from that trusty free online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, is a definition of SEO:

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s "natural" or un-paid ("organic") search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.”

Basically, using good SEO means that your dropship listings or your dropshipping website will have a much better chance of being ranked high in the SERPs, or Search Engine Results Pages. Since internet research has shown time and again that the majority of online users seldom go past the first page of search results…..this is obviously where you want to be in order to get plenty of traffic and sales.

Now, here are some handy SEO tips for your home dropship business:

  • Use your keywords wisely. If you are writing product descriptions, for example, be sure to have your primary keywords in the first and last sentence of the descriptions. Ditto for the title.

  • If you are using content marketing and writing articles to promote your dropship business, use the same principle with your keywords---title, first and last sentence. As far as everything in between, aim for a keyword density of around 2% and write your content for humans instead of search engines. Google will reward you for this!

  • Be sure to use good SEO for your image alt tags, meta tags, headers and site map. This will help Google and the other search engine crawlers to find your dropship business site or your listings.

  • If you are active in social media marketing, which hopefully you are, don’t forget to use best SEO practices on your social sites, too. Use your keywords to best advantage on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, MySpace, LinkedIn or whatever social platform you are leveraging.

  • Submit a site map to Google. Sure, Google and the other search engines will probably find your dropship site eventually without a site map, but submitting it to them expedites the process considerably.

  • Use Google Webmaster tools to track and analyze your SEO. You will find a whole suite of SEO tools from Google that can be extremely helpful to you. For instance, you can find out which search queries brought one of your pages up in Google search results, your most popular landing pages and which search engine they came from and even a geographical breakdown of where your click throughs are coming from.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Boost SEO Using Keyword Effectiveness Index

SEO KEI dropship ecommerce businessUsing best SEO practices can make or break your online dropship or other ecommerce home business, so getting a handle on KEI, or Keyword Effectiveness Index, might prove extremely beneficial to help ensure a steady flow of traffic through your website.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which simply means that you are taking steps to make it easier for Google and the other search engines to find your dropship site. If the search engines can’t find your site, they can’t crawl and index it and in that event, you almost certainly wouldn’t have a website or a dropship business for long since if Google can’t find you…neither will anybody else.

Therefore, it is critical to use good SEO and understanding how to implement the Keyword Effectiveness Index is a giant step in the right direction to boost traffic to your online dropship business!

What is Keyword Effectiveness Index?

KEI, or Keyword Effectiveness Index, was first used by Sumantra Roy, one of the most respected search engine optimization experts in the internet, of 1st Search Ranking. In a nutshell, KEI is the initial research done for determining your best dropship business keywords by combining data about Competition and Daily World Searches.

Why Use Keyword Effectiveness Index?

The purpose of preliminary keyword research is to get keyword suggestions that are based on your basic keywords. Once you have gotten the suggestions, you can then determine the KEI for each keyword. This is basically how it works: The higher the Keyword Effectiveness Index, the more traffic this keyword should have because your competition for that particular keyword is low and the number of searches done for that keyword every day is high. Armed with the KEI, you can choose from the best suggestions for each of your dropship website pages. This list will provide you with your prime keywords,  secondary and so on.

How to Calculate KEI

To calculate the Keyword Effectiveness Index, use this formula:

KEI = (DS^2/C) = (DS/C * DS), where DS is the number of daily world searches and C is the competition. The KEI ranges from 0 to over 400.

Here is the determination for poor, good and excellent keywords:

  • < 0.001 = Poor keyword
  • 0.001-0.010 = Good Keyword
  • 0.010-0.100+ = Excellent Keyword

Using the KEI is a classic example of working smarter instead of harder. With the keyword knowledge you gain using the KEI, you will be better able to use best SEO practices and the keywords and keyword phrases that will perform the best for your dropship business. Wordtracker has a great free keyword tool that can help you with SEO and KEI.

Keeping your dropship business website up to speed on SEO can give you a lead over the pack of competitors nipping at your heels!

There are other search engines besides Google, of course. But the fact is that none are as popular or widely used as the giant among them, namely Google. Knowing how to use SEO effectively to make points with Google can be tremendously helpful in growing your dropship business.

Here are 5 tips for best SEO practices for Google:

1. Ideally, you should have determined your best keywords before creating your dropship website. However, if you didn’t, all is not lost. You can still sit down and figure out which are your optimal keywords and start using them. Choosing the best and most relevant keywords involves finding the ones with the highest search volume and the lowest amount of competition. There are free tools available on the internet to assist you with your keyword research.

2. Optimize your titles to the max! The page title tag is one of the most important factors for high rankings with Google. The title tag is shown as the first line of text at the top of the browsing window. An SEO title tag should contain around 60-80 characters and be concise as well as descriptive. This is what will show up in Google search results as a link to your dropship web page, so make it work for you!

3. Always use keyword rich, relevant headings for your web pages. Your header tags are important  because they tell Google what is important on your web page. One best SEO practice for your dropship business is to use your primary keyword or keywords in your H1 header and your secondary keywords in your H2 and other headers.

4. Always create a site map and Google XML map. When you submit an XML site map to Google, you are facilitating finding and indexing your dropship web site.

5. Take the time to create a Robots.txt file for Google. This file will tell Google which pages should be crawled and which shouldn’t. Every dropship website is going to have pages that simply are not relevant for search engines and by creating a Robots.txt file that leaves these pages out, you are making it faster and easier for Google to crawl and index your relevant content.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Using Internal Links for Best SEO Practices

dropship business link buildingEvery ecommerce entrepreneur with a dropship or other online home business should be aware of the value of using internal links correctly for maximum SEO advantages.

Many of those with an internet business focus entirely on acquiring high quality links for the value they provide and the boost in search engine favor. But, they often overlook one of the best resources for using links to best effect---their own website!

So, how can you use your internal links to their best advantage? Here are a few tips to put your internal links to work for you:

If you haven’t already done so, create a keyword list of your best and most targeted keywords. This is a great place to use some long tail variations of your keywords, by the way.

Go through your pages and identify the ones that have keywords from your list that you wish to build internal links for.

Once you have listed all of your pages, then go to each individual page and hyperlink the relevant keywords. This signals Google that the page is important as well as providing some information as to what the page is all about. Also, by linking the page to another destination, it throws up a relevance signal as well as building more pathways within your website.

If your prime keywords aren’t highlighted on a certain page, try to tuck a few of them into the content in a natural manner so that they don’t appear stuffed or make the content nonsensical.

Chart and track the results of your efforts in building keyword rich internal links. Remember, search engine algorithms are subject to change without notice and what worked last week might not be getting the job done this week, in which case you will need to revise your strategy.

Don’t forget some of the most often overlooked sources of valuable internal links: administrative pages. These include your About Me/Us page, Contact Us, Terms and Privacy Policies, Shipping Info, etc. These pages are particularly good because they are usually a mere click or two away from your home page, which is normally the most visited page you have; collecting more links and building more equity.

These tips can serve you well in your ecommerce dropship home business.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: SEO Items You Shouldn’t Forget Part II

dropship home business SEOSEO is an integral part of your success as an ecommerce entrepreneur with a dropship or other online sales business, and there are certain items that shouldn’t be overlooked on your website for maximum results and increased traffic, plus more sales.

Here are a few more important SEO items that are frequently neglected by dropship sellers on their websites:

  • Make sure that your alt attributes are keyword enhanced for best SEO practices. This is an area that falls through the cracks all too often on dropship or other ecommerce websites where an omission like this will translate to fewer sales and less profits. While you don’t want to over work this point by stuffing too many keywords into alt attributes or adding keywords to bullet points; it is nevertheless a key item that will enhance your SEO and make it easier for the search engines such as Google to find your website.

  • Don’t run out of room on your pages for content. Always remember that content is king! For optimal results, every page should have at least 200 words of keyword rich content. Don’t neglect such things as headers, either. H1 and H2 and so on headers are a great opportunity to use your keywords for best SEO. Again, don’t overdo it by stuffing keywords as far from making brownie points with the search engines, you will antagonize them to the point of possibly even being blacklisted due to your Black Hat tactics, which would sound the death knell for your dropship home business.

  • Internal linking is such an important part of best SEO practices and many dropship entrepreneurs completely overlook the potential in this area. Your internal links are a vast reservoir of opportunity to put your keywords to good use!

  • Use unique, keyword rich meta descriptions for each and every page on your ecommerce website! Bear in mind that these meta descriptions will be the snippet seen in search results, so be sure to include a brief call to action.

These prime SEO items are a fantastic way to grow and build your dropship ecommerce business!

These are things that really don’t need to be left out as they all play critical roles in the success of your dropship sales business. Here are a few SEO basics to be sure and keep in mind:

  • Before you start building your ecommerce dropship website, decide what your keywords are going to be. It is much easier to begin basic site building with these keywords pre-determined than to create the entire site and then go back to add all of your keywords and use best SEO practices. Do the necessary keyword research so that you know before even starting to build your website exactly what your prime keywords will be and how to use them for maximum SEO.

  • Use keyword based URLs. There are two types of URLs: Static and dynamic. In static URLs, the contents of the web page remain the same unless the changes are hard coded into the HTML, whereas dynamic URLs are generated from particular queries to a site's database. Search engines don’t like dynamic URLs. So, play it safe and use static URLs that are keyword rich.

  • If you are dropship selling more than one product, you should have a unique keyword enhanced URL for each product that you are offering. This will ensure that you don’t have duplicate content problems if you have a product on more than one page.

  • Be sure to use 301 redirects if you deactivate a link. If you merely take a page down and fail to redirect, you will lose all of the benefits of links gathered to that page and.

  • Always have a 404 error page that is customized to your dropship website. That way, if somehow someone clicks on a broken link, they will know they are on the right website and not just assume your whole site is defunct and hit the back button.

These SEO tips will stand you in good stead and help to grow your dropship home business.

The days of Black Hat SEO---stuffing your content with keywords just to boost your search engine rankings---are over. In fact, you will find yourself penalized or worse yet, blacklisted by Google and the other major search engines for using this type of Search Engine Optimization.

But, you do need to use best SEO practices in your content and your copywriting. Here are a few tips to help you get started with SEO copywriting:

  • Remember that your copywriting is being written for humans, not search engine bots. So, be sure to make it interesting, informative, entertaining or otherwise worth reading for human beings. The quality of your copywriting weighs heavily with Google, so bear that in mind.

  • While not stuffing keywords, do understand when copywriting for your ecommerce dropship business that targeted traffic is the best kind of traffic you can get. By judicious use of your prime keywords, you will attract much more targeted traffic---people who are actively searching for what you are selling. This will improve your conversion rate, which is another boost with the search engines, while increasing sales and profits.

  • Although you are writing your content for humans, you must also realize that the way human eyes see a web page is not the way the search engine crawlers view it. So, take pains with your title tags, meta tags, alt image tags, header tags and so on to make sure that they are incorporating your best keywords. This will help the search engines to see what your business is all about and makes it easy for them to show anyone searching for your keywords a link to your website.

Use these SEO copywriting tips to help boost traffic and sales for your dropship online home business.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: SEO for Landing Pages Part II

SEO dropship ecommerce businessYour landing pages are vitally important to the success of your dropship or other ecommerce business and using good SEO will go a long way toward making those critical pages more effective.

Part I of this series offered a couple of basic but very important tips for optimizing your landing pages for the search engines. Now we’ll proceed on with more timely tips for SEO for your dropship landing pages. This time, we’ll focus on content.

Click Here for a FREE SEO Whitepaper That Will Help Your Sales!

If there is one thing that Google and the other search engines love, it’s content. Your landing pages need to have a minimum of 300-400 words and the content should follow through with the theme of the page as well as the promise of the link that brought a visitor to your site.

One of the biggest reasons for a poor conversion rate is failing to follow through with that promise. For example, if a visitor clicks a link in the search results that mentions “salt water aquariums” then this is obviously where that person’s interest lies. So, you wouldn’t want to lure them to your website landing page on the basis of salt water aquariums as your keywords only to have them land on a page that was about something completely different.

Whatever your landing page link….make your content on that page reflect the same thing. Use your keywords in this content as long as they flow naturally with the text. Don’t stuff or cram keywords into your landing page content as you might actually find yourself blacklisted by the search engines. In the realm of ecommerce, this would be a death blow to your dropship sales!

How much is too much when it comes to using your keywords for SEO on your landing pages or other content?

There are different schools of thought on that subject. Some SEO gurus say it’s best to stick to about 2%, which equals out to around 10 times in 500 words of content. Others swear by using a 3-5% concentration of keywords. Basically, stick to whatever works for you without going over 5% as long as your content reads naturally. Depending on your keywords, it can be challenging to work it or them in naturally 10 or more times within 500 words of content. So just try to do the best you can, knowing that using good SEO practices on your landing pages will help to build your dropship business!

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: SEO for Landing Pages Part I

SEO dropship ecommerce online home businessYour dropship or other ecommerce business will benefit from using best SEO practices on your landing pages.

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a critical part of your overall success in an online home business. SEO is what helps Google and the other search engines find your website or dropship products and then show them in the SERPS, or Search Engine Results Pages, to any shoppers out there searching for what you are selling.

So, it just makes sense that your landing pages---so vitally important in and of themselves---will benefit tremendously from using good SEO. Here are a few tips to help you get the most mileage out of your landing pages with SEO:

  • Title Tags---Your page title tags should be your first step toward incorporating good SEO into your landing pages. You need to really work at using your primary keyword/s right up front at the beginning of the page title tag. For example, if your dropship sales niche is memory foam mattresses and pillows, then your title tag for landing pages should look something like this: Memory Foam--Your Website’s Name. Why is this important? Because the search engines weigh keywords at the front of a title tag more heavily than those at the end.

  • Meta Descriptions: A meta description is intended to provide the search engines with a little help by furnishing a brief description of the web page as well as its content. Using SEO wisely in your meta descriptions will go a long way toward boosting your rankings in search results. When someone does a search for your keywords, they will see this little dab of information; too, as the search engines usually include your meta descriptions in the results. So, here again--use your primary keyword/s as close to the front of the meta description as you can for the same reason you placed those keywords right up front in your page title tags. Be inventive and try to use those hot keywords twice in your meta description. Here is an example of a well written meta description for someone dropship selling memory foam mattresses: “Memory foam mattresses are a great investment. Sleeping on a memory foam mattress is pure bliss.”

You get the idea. Now, we have laid out a track for you to run on with two key elements of your landing pages and will follow up with further installments to this series, so be sure to check back.

SEO, used judiciously, can rev up your dropship traffic and sales!

Everybody has to take that first baby step to start the learning process and you will find that once you get a little more involved in ecommerce and start understanding the basic principles of SEO, slowly but surely it will all start falling into place and you’ll begin to understand what it’s all about.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. This means making it easier for the search engines such as Google to find your products or your website. If the search engines can’t find your dropship products, it will be almost impossible to generate enough traffic to make the sales you will need to make in order to realize a good profit on your business.

There is a popular saying on the web about Google, the largest search engine that is popular and oft’ repeated simply because it is true: If you don’t exist with Google, you don’t exist. That’s about the size of it!

So, you need to use SEO to optimize your content in order to make it easy for Google and the other search engines to find you and include your website or dropship products in their SERPs, which means Search Engine Results Pages.

Using Basic SEO

In the beginning, once you familiarize yourself with the basic tenets of SEO and have gained a working knowledge to be getting on with, start with your ground floor:

  • Landing Pages
  • Home Page
  • Headers
  • Image Descriptions
  • Page Titles
  • Categories
  • Product Descriptions
  • Links
  • Navigation
  • Content

Determine your best keywords and use them wisely in the areas noted above. In addition, provide the search engines with fresh, relevant content as often as possible. You can do this by adding pages about your products, for example, that are interesting and informative; or any number of ways. The main thing is to add the fresh content and work your prime keywords in at a ratio of about 10 keywords per 500 words of content. This comes out to about 2%, which is what Google prefers.

You may also find it very helpful to attend a few free webinars on SEO to help you find your way.

Once you have mastered basic SEO, don’t relax and rest on your laurels! This is an area of your dropship business that will require ongoing education, so make it a point to carve out a little time for it at least once a month or so.

Using SEO wisely will mean the difference between success and failure for your ecommerce dropship home business!
