What is Tumblr?

Tumblr is probably the simplest and most user friendly of any blogging platform on the World Wide Web at the moment. It was designed to be easy to use and has succeeded admirably. You can set up an account and post your first blog in a matter of minutes.

Best of all…it’s FREE!

Download this FREE e-book and learn about the benefits of having a business blog!

Here are what some of the big names in the world of media have had to say about Tumblr:

“Tumblr makes blogging blissfully easy.” New York Times

“It’s blogging, the way blogging was meant to be.”  Fast Company

“Tumblr: Microblogging done right.” cnet

“Marketers trying to keep pace with Twitter and Facebook may want to check out another emerging social media platform: Tumblr.” BrandWeek

We can’t always put a lot of credence in some of the hype we read about new things online, but Tumblr seems to live up to its reputation.

Another plus is that Tumblr is growing by leaps and bounds! Since June of this year, global page views have increased from about 1.5 billion to more than 3.5 billion for the month of December, 2010.

Tumblr blogs have begun going viral on other social media websites such as Twitter, StumbleUpon and Digg.

If you have been considering starting a dropship business blog to help drive traffic to your site, build your brand and increase sales; Tumblr would be an ideal blogging platform for you!

Here are some helpful hints for using Tumblr:

  • Apply the KISS principle and keep your posts simple. You aren’t writing War and Peace or Gone With the Wind, after all. Blog posts are meant to be short, simple and snappy!
  • Use images! The blog posts on Tumblr or any other blogging platform do best if there is an image posted, especially something funny and catchy such as a meme type image.
  • Tweet your Tumblr post to Twitter. Another great way to broaden your exposure.

  • Use the queue system to schedule your posts so that you don’t have to worry about forgetting to post or needing to update with fresh content when you are busy with something else.

  • Use reblogging when desirable and appropriate. The reblogging feature on Tumblr lets you reblog someone else’s post to yours. It provides fresh content for you and passes credit to the original poster, besides putting your account into the notes for the original thread, which could help attract others to check out you blog.

Tumblr is super easy to use, free and really gaining ground! Use it to start a blog for your dropship business as part of a social media marketing strategy!

Dropship Tips: How to Use SEO to Maximize Your Facebook Presence

dropshipping FacebookYour dropship business can benefit from a social media marketing presence on Facebook, and using effective SEO practices can maximize your efforts.

You may not have put much thought into using SEO for your dropshipping business Fan Page, but the fact is that employing SEO best practices is always a good idea across any and every platform!

Since the search engines rank and also rate all web sites on the internet based on content, it just makes sense that this applies to Facebook content, as well.

With the advent of Google’s Real Time search, your Facebook content has become even more important, which makes it advisable to use your prime keywords whenever possible.

Download this FREE e-book to learn powerful secrets of social media marketing!

Another thing to bear in mind is Facebook’s Open Graph, which basically enables Facebook to function as a search engine of sorts, tying social to search in a brand new way with its “Like” button and making SEO rich content on your Fan Page even more crucial.

Here are some basic tips for making your Facebook Fan Page more SEO maximized for the benefit of your dropship or other ecommerce business:

Naming Your Fan Page: Your Facebook Fan Page should have a name that incorporates at least one of your prime keywords. For example, if your dropshipping business sells aquarium supplies, and the name of your website uses the keywords “aquarium supplies,” then you should use those keywords in your page name. Please note that once you  have chosen a name for your Fan Page you will not be able to change it!

Choosing the Proper Category: When you begin creating your Facebook Fan Page, you will be shown a menu of categories to choose from. Choose wisely! Select a category that is most relevant to your dropshipping business and niche. Facebook will use this category to index your business, brand, etc. so it is important to place your page in the right category.

Using the Vanity URL: Once you have accumulated 100 fans, Facebook will allow you to choose a Vanity URL, or User Name, for your Fan Page. This may be the most important aspect of SEO for your Facebook presence, so do try to come up with a great Vanity URL. For example, if your main dropshipping products are mattresses and your business name is “Goodnight Sleep,” you might go for a Vanity URL such as:

Using good SEO can help make the most of your social media marketing efforts on Facebook to grow and build a home dropship business.

Valentine's Day: Let Cupid Help Boost Online Dropship Sales!

Although the main winter holidays are still ahead of us, it is time to start thinking about getting your dropship businessdropship valentine's day ready for the next big holiday when Cupid reigns supreme: Valentine’s Day.

The National Retail Federation reports that Valentine's Day is the second-biggest shopping holiday of the entire year.

Download this free e-book to get inside marketing secrets that will greatly improve your traffic and sales!

It isn’t too early to start getting your email campaign all lined up, along with your Valentine’s Day promotions, deals and sales. Ditto for your social media marketing and PPC ads---think ahead and make your plans now to make sure you take maximum advantage of this very lucrative holiday!

In fact, it won’t hurt a thing to get the jump on the competition by starting your Valentine’s Day promotions a little ahead of everyone else. This will enable you to get the lion’s share of the early bird shoppers.

Discovery Card conducted a survey on Valentine Day’s sales in 2008 and learned that:

  • Men planned to spend approximately $127 on their sweethearts, while women planned to spend around $74. Of these women, approximately 53% said they would purchase some kind of gadgets for their significant others.
  • 65% of Valentine’s Day shoppers will make their purchases about a week before February 14th
  • Almost 10% of male shoppers will wait until February 14th, the actual holiday!
  • Almost 40% of female Valentine’s Day shoppers didn’t plan to buy a gift at all.
  • 22% of men and 15% of women planned to shop online for Valentine’s Day gifts.

Now, it seems exceedingly likely that this percentage of online shoppers has increased significantly since 2008, simply because the percentage of people who are choosing to shop online in general has increased dramatically in the past few years.

So, the point is that Valentine’s Day can be a very profitable day for your online dropship sales!

You don’t have to sell flowers or candy in order to cash in on the shopping for Cupid’s big day.

Perfume, bath and body products, jewelry, lingerie and more are popular gifts for the ladies.

Techno gadgets and man toys are always great gifts for the guys.

Your dropship business can greatly increase sales by capitalizing on this romantic holiday!

New Year’s Resolutions for Your Ecommerce Dropship Business

dropship 2011 new year'sYou may have always considered New Year’s resolutions to be something made on a purely personal basis, but have you thought about making resolutions for your ecommerce dropship business for 2011?

One of the most wonderful things about a home business in dropship sales or another online endeavor is that you are the captain of your ship.

You make all major decisions. You decide what to do or not do, which new products to sell, which old products to stop selling, when to work and not work, and so on and so forth.

It’s all up to you!

So, you are free to make whatever New Year’s resolutions you want to for the upcoming year. Think about it. Invest a little time in just sitting down and mulling over the past year as pertaining to your business.

What would you have done differently? Have you made mistakes and learned by them? Did you try a new marketing technique that exceeded your expectations to the extent that you want to continue on with it next year?

Did you discover that you are not a morning person and are most productive if you set your working hours later on in the day?

When you work at home and are your own boss, you have the freedom to experiment with what works best for you and your business.

Download this free e-book and get the facts about one of the hottest home business opportunities available!

Take advantage of what you have learned during the past twelve months to help you craft a fantastic set of New Year’s resolutions that will make you more productive and your business more profitable.

This is also a great time to think about your weaknesses.

Are you prone to procrastinate? Do you work best when you’re working on a deadline and it’s right down to the wire? Do you work best when you are relaxed with plenty of time to accomplish your tasks?

Ponder these types of things and be honest with yourself while you’re at it.

Do you tend to take too-long lunch breaks that interfere with completing your days’ work in the allotted hours? Are you caving to temptation to surf the web checking out freebies and deals or playing online games when you should be buckling down and applying yourself to running your business?

Decide which areas need improvement, which things bear repeating….and make your resolutions accordingly.

Vow to eliminate or at least cut back on the time wasters and any counterproductive habits you have had during the past year.

Resolve to incorporate your good strategies and habits into the next year.

Make your New Year’s resolutions wisely and you will help your dropship business to survive and thrive in 2011!

Dropship Tips: What Time is the Right Time for Social Media?

dropship social media marketingIf you have an ecommerce dropship business and are engaged in social media marketing, which hopefully you are, you might find yourself wondering which times of the day or days of the week are best to tweet, post on Facebook or otherwise put in an appearance on a social site.

We’ve all heard the old saying: timing is everything.

But, does this apply to social media marketing, as well?

If you surf the web for answers to this question, you are liable to find a widely diverse set of opinions on the subject of social media marketing and timing.

There are those who swear they have tested and found no major differences in the success of their marketing efforts based on the time or day they tweeted or posted on Facebook or another social site.

On the other hand, there are those who steadfastly maintain that timing is important and that your social media marketing efforts will bear more fruit if done on certain days at particular times.

Download our free e-book and get in the inside track with social media marketing!

So, who is wrong and who is right?

When all is said and done, it seems that the answer to that question might depend on your dropship sales niche and your target market.

For example, if your target market is senior citizens, then almost anytime of the day or night might work equally well to reach out to this demographic for the simple reason that many or even most seniors are no longer in the work force and more apt to be online while some are on the job.

However, if your target market is high school and college age people, then it would seem likely that less of this target market would be online during classroom hours and that you might better expend your efforts during the evening.

Maybe the bottom line is that there is something to be said for times when there will be more activity and users online, as well as times when there are fewer people online and less activity.

With more people online and hence more activity, you can reasonably expect to have more exposure but also more competition and “noise” which could cause less actual engagement with your target audience.

If you choose to focus your efforts on times when there are fewer folks online and less activity, you will have less competition and distracting noise, but also less exposure.

So, there may be no black or white answer to the question of which times are best for social media marketing.

To determine which times and days produce the best results for your dropship business, try testing and tracking to determine if there really are certain times of the day and/or days of the week that are optimal for you….and go from there.

As mentioned above, there are presently more than 600 million Facebook users and that growth doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. Here are some handy tips that might help you build a really good Facebook Pan Page:

  • When you build your page, you will see a place to enter a personal profile. Unless you want to have your personal profile tied to your page---don’t go there. It isn’t necessary to have this personal profile but once you’ve done it, there is no going back. The only way to get rid of it once you’ve created it is to delete the entire page and start all over again from scratch. The good news is that if it’s too late and you have already done this, you can set your personal profile so that it can’t be viewed by anybody except you.

  • It is very helpful to add images to your Facebook page updates, and based on recent data from a study conducted by the social media marketing group Vitrue, you are better off to do this on Friday mornings. Here is the scoop from Vitrue’s findings:

“Posts with images get clicked on 22 percent more often than video posts, and 54 percent more often than text-only posts

Posts published before noon get clicked on 65 percent more often than those published later.

Posts published on Friday do best; weekends are the worst.”

  • Don’t get carried away and post too many updates! In general, social media marketing experts advise no more than 1-2 updates daily to your Facebook business page.

These tips will help you make the most of your Facebook business page and will help grow your dropship business.

SEO Tips for Google Instant That Will Help Your Dropship Business

Google Instant for dropship businessSince Google Instant came on the scene a few months ago, it has basically changed some of the existing tenets of SEO, so you might need some pointers about how to adapt in order to build your dropship business.

What is Google Instant?

For those of you who might not be familiar with Google Instant, here is a definition straight from the horses’ mouth, so to speak---from Google itself:

“Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type. We are pushing the limits of our technology and infrastructure to help you get better search results, faster. Our key technical insight was that people type slowly, but read quickly, typically taking 300 milliseconds between keystrokes, but only 30 milliseconds (a tenth of the time!) to glance at another part of the page. This means that you can scan a results page while you type.”

Learn inside secrets of SEO experts! Download our FREE whitepaper now and get your business on the fast track to success!

So, that’s what Google Instant is, but…..what does it mean in terms of keeping your dropship business ranking high in search?

It means that you must adapt your SEO and other things that have an impact on your search rankings with Google. This may end up being a case of adapt or die, because as any ecommerce entrepreneur knows; the higher you rank with Google the better off you are.

If you fall off the first page in Google search, it could be a steep climb back to the top!

What can you do to adapt your SEO and other strategies to be more compatible with the new Instant search?

Here are a few tips that should prove beneficial for you:

  • Because of the Google Instant Preview, which allows viewers to take a peek at your website before making the decision to actually go there, you may need to take a good look at your website’s first impression. The first impression that viewers get from your website is even more crucial than before due to the Google Instant Preview. Devote some time to sprucing it up to the max!

  • Work on your meta-descriptions and make them as good as they can get! A viewer using Google search will have to click on the little magnifying glass to preview your site, and the meta-descriptions will offer searchers an incentive to preview and then visit your website.

  • Make sure your alt tags are descriptive! This will be quite helpful when images pop up on Google for a particular keyword.

  • Your header tags are essential! Viewers probably won’t be able to read all of the text, but they will almost certainly be able to read the larger items in the header. The information they get from your header may make the difference between previewing your website and moving on---or visiting.

Use these tips to help maximize Google Instant to help increase traffic and sales in your dropship business.

Use these useful tips to maximize your social presence and watch your traffic and sales grow!

  • Provide plenty of information about your business---who you are, what you do, how long you’ve been doing it, where you do it, how you do it if applicable, etc. The more you personalize yourself to other social community members, the better off you will be and the more memorable. Telling people about your business makes them feel more inclined to check it out for themselves and once they visit your website, you have a decent chance of gaining a new customer!

  • Interact with other social site users. Visit other pages that have interests somehow relevant to yours. Be friendly but not pushy! If someone takes the trouble to post on your page wall, reciprocate in kind.

  • Don’t ever oversell! This is one of the cardinal rules for ecommerce entrepreneurs on social sites. Yes, your primary purpose in having a social marketing campaign is to reap benefits for your dropship business, but if you come on like Crazy Larry the used car salesman, you’ll lose potential friends and someday-customers.

  • Share something of value! Instead of just promoting your business, share interesting content with other users. It may be something humorous, an informational tidbit, a strange story, anything of interest. If you want others to like you and follow or friend you, then be sure to give them a good reason to do so!

Social media optimization can work wonders to build your dropship business into a profitable, thriving endeavor!

Dropship Tips: A Beginner's Guide to SEO for Ecommerce

seo dropshipIf you are a brand new entrepreneur with a home dropship business or other ecommerce endeavor, you might appreciate getting some basic SEO tips to help you get started in the world of online sales!

What is SEO?

SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization.”

Why is it important to have Search Engine Optimization?

In a nutshell, if the search engines such as Google can’t find you, then neither will anybody else, including customers. There are all sorts of things that an online business in dropship sales can probably do without, but having customers is not one of them!

There is a saying that is familiar to most ecommerce business people: If you don’t exist with Google---you don’t exist.

And that’s about the size of it.

So, to make sure that the search engines can find your business or your dropship products, you must use SEO.

First and foremost, it is important that you have a working knowledge of keywords.

What are keywords?

Keywords are the words or phrases used by internet users when they are searching for a particular thing on the World Wide Web. For example, if you wanted to buy a pet bed online, you would probably type the words “pet bed” into the Google search box, or the search box of whichever search engine you use. So “pet bed” is a keyword phrase, and if you were selling pet beds, this would certainly be your prime keyword that you would use for SEO.

Want to take a great crash course in SEO? Download our FREE whitepaper for lots of tips & pointers!

Where do you need keywords?

  • In your title: Your page title is crucial and should always contain at least one of your most relevant keywords.

  • In your URL: Always try to have a URL with your best keyword/s. For instance, if you are selling Christmas decorations, you should have something like www.bestchristmasdecorations.com or something similar. If you are selling a specific type of Christmas decorations such as wreaths, then use the words “Christmas wreath” in your URL if at all possible. This will net you better targeted traffic, which will help your conversion rate, which will help your ranking in SERPs, or Search Engine Results Pages.

  • In your content: A rule of thumb is that your keywords should comprise approximately 5-7% per 500 words. Don’t go over 10% or you will be cooking your proverbial goose with Google because that is known as “Black Hat SEO” and that’s a bad thing that can get you blacklisted with Google and other major search engines.

There are other important places to use SEO and great keywords, but those will get you started and will help drive traffic to your dropship business!
