If you are a work-at-home internet business entrepreneur, you know that the rewards of working at home are many.
But, you also know that the challenges of working at home are fairly numerous, too!
The truth is that the same things that make working at home great can also be your downfall, unless you take steps to stay productive.
Here are 5 handy tips that will help the WAHM entrepreneur maximize working hours in order to be as productive as possible:
Train Friends and Family:Somehow, friends and family tend to think that those of us who work from home aren’t really working….that our time is entirely our own, so we’re free to gopher errands, babysit, stop in the middle of the day and go to lunch on the spur of the moment, or whatever.
Part of your work-at-home job is to train and educate your friends, family, neighbors, your kids’ teachers or whoever else needs to understand the program. You have to teach these people and anybody else who simply fails to understand that even though you are at home all day---you’re working.
Define what constitutes an emergency and what doesn’t.
If you have some folks who stubbornly just don’t seem to get it no matter how many times you’ve explained that your time at home during working hours is spent earning a living---charge them by the hour for anything they ask you to do during those working hours. That will probably put a stop to it, if nothing else has.
Schedule Your Working Day:It is vitally important to stay on track when you work at home. Temptation and distractions have waylaid many an ecommerce entrepreneur right out of business! Make a schedule and stick to it assiduously.
Report to your home work space at a set time every day, dressed neatly for work and not in your pajamas. Yes, you could work from home in your pajamas or your birthday suit, for that matter, but it’s a bad idea. Being dressed neatly affects your frame of mind so that you feel psychologically prepared to buckle down and work.
Schedule regular breaks:Don’t try to work on and on like the Energizer Bunny. Make time for breaks and let your brain and your back relax for a few minutes away from your computer.
Get up and walk around. Take the dog out if you have one, and get some fresh air. Return a phone call that came in while you were working, that the answering machine got because you were hanging tough and not getting distracted.
Have a snack, do some yoga, anything that gets you away from your work area for at least 15-20 minutes. It’s important to work hard, but don’t push yourself until you burn out!
Set Goals!Setting goals is one of the most effective things you can do to keep your work-at-home business on track. Better yet, set number goals. Instead of telling yourself that you’re going to increase sales---set a number of sales you’ll add over a period of a week or month.
It’s easier to visualize and attain a goal if you have a very definite objective, such as a number to achieve.
For instance, set a goal to learn about one new marketing technique or strategy a week.
Don’t Over-Schedule Yourself:Of course you want to succeed and make pots full of money! Everybody wants that. But don’t keep your nose to the grindstone for such long hours that you have no quality time left for your family or friends---or yourself. Work a reasonable number of hours a day, but make them count! There may be times when you’ll need to put in extra hours, but for the most part….plan you work and work your plan.
You’ll find that by getting and staying organized, and maximizing your working hours, you can accomplish a lot more in a lot less number of hours!
