Visibility matters. Your visibility on eBay is what enables you to reach potential buyers; the greater your reach, the greater opportunity you have to land a sale – more opportunities lead to more sales.
To maximize your eBay visibility, you need to have a good understanding of how seller performance rating works.
The Buying Experience
What kind of buying experience do you offer your customers? If you haven’t thought about this before, now is a good time to do so. Creating a pleasant buying experience for your customers ensures that they will be satisfied. Positive transactions lead to customer loyalty and repeat sales.
How do you know if you are offering a pleasant buying experience to customers?
Your feedback offers clues. Buyers have the option of leaving you an overall feedback rating of positive, neutral, or negative. Your positive feedback rating is calculated based on the number of positive feedback ratings divided by the number of positive, neutral, and negative ratings. Weekly repeat feedback ratings are included as well.
You can achieve a higher positive feedback rating by providing excellent customer service, which includes the following:
- Timely responses to customer inquiries
- Accurate product descriptions
- Clear payment, shipping, and return policies
- Quickly fulfill orders
- Bring your “A” game to work every day
The most successful sellers enjoy what they do, and their passion is contagious. Share your excitement to attract more customers.
A Closer Look at Feedback
Buyers can choose to leave more detailed feedback about their buying experience. Detailed feedback scores are known as DSRs – Detailed Seller Ratings. Your DSR is paramount in significance to your success on eBay; it determines your eligibility for important seller benefits including:
- Greater visibility in search results
- Membership to the PowerSeller program
- Special discounts on final value fees
Take advantage of these powerful benefits by boosting your DSR.
What details are scored in a detailed seller rating?
Buyers can rate their buying experience based on four detailed areas:
- Item as Described
- Communication
- Shipping Time
- Shipping & Handling Charges
You can find your DSR information on your Seller Dashboard. Take a minute to write down your current DSR scores. This will enable you to track your improvement as you work on boosting your scores.
How do you increase your DSR scores?
Think about each of the four areas (item as described, communication, shipping time, and shipping & handling charges) from a buyer’s point of view. With this paradigm shift of perspective, it is easier to see what needs to be changed.
Consider the following points to improve scores in each area.
- Is the product described accurately? (Including model number, size, color, etc)
- Are all product flaws listed? (If applicable)
- Is the product condition stated? (New, excellent used condition, etc)
- Are product benefits stated? (Benefits are persuasive… hint, hint!)
- Is a clear, high-quality picture provided in the listing? (A picture speaks a thousand words…)
- Is the listing easy to read and understand? (Consider font size and color, spelling errors, etc)
- Does the seller respond quickly to inquiries? (Is the preferred method of communication mentioned?)
- Are all policies clearly stated in the listing? (Payment, shipping, returns…)
- Does the seller leave positive feedback after timely payments clear? (Builds a positive relationship!)
- Does the seller ship within a reasonable time period? (Usually 24-48 hours after payment clears)
- Does the seller provide tracking information? (Enables customers to track their package and reduces the number of customer inquiries)
- Does the seller charge reasonable shipping and handling fee? (Is the fee accurate?)
Put these selling tips and techniques into place immediately to watch your DSR increase, boost your visibility, and grow your drop ship sales.
