On Page One: Using Search Engines to Become the Number One Recommended Dropshipping Business

 
One of the issues dropshippers have to deal with is capturing the attention of potential customers. Having a great products and a good-looking, functional website are essential, but they will not be of much use if nobody actually comes along to look at them. This is where search engines enter the picture. Search engines can rank your website, and the higher your rank (i.e. the closer you are to being the first result listed), the more likely casual surfers will be to click the link to your homepage when scanning a long list of search results.

Here are some techniques you can use to bring yourself closer to the top, and even become the number one recommended dropshipping business, at least in terms of how you come out on the results page of search engines. These techniques are known as search engine optimization. Some companies specialize in these and can create or adjust your site to be search engine optimizing for a fee. However, you can do many of the most basic-and effective-techniques yourself.

1. Update content frequently. However, make sure these are "real" updates based on authentic new developments, instead of changes made for no practical purpose.
2. Add new pages to your website as you accumulate more content over time. These could be blogs, archives or a forum. After your updates, you should adjust your Google xml and visitor site maps to reflect the new additions.
3. Make sure there is a navigation bar on every page of your site. The most common-and therefore the best, because most familiar and easy-type is the one that runs along the top of the page, or down the left side. You should only design one navigation bar. A different navigation bar for every page is useless and confusing.
4. Use the names of your pages and pictures to attract search engine traffic by including frequently-searched key words or phrases. Of course, remember to keep such labels informative and true to your site content as well.
5. Tie your site together with internal links. Photos and phrases can be used as links. This way, it is easy for visitors to find their way to related pages.
6. You can use Meta tags (sort of virtual post-its or sticky labels attached to web pages, especially blog entries, as topic labels) with key words to get more engine-generated traffic. However, be careful not to overdo. Otherwise, you will be guilty of keyword-stuffing. This is not really an offense for which you can be strictly penalized. However, search engines are likely to severely lower your ranking-a good enough reason to avoid this practice!
