If you are an ecommerce entrepreneur, you might already be submitting articles to various blogs and site such as Ezine and GoArticles.
But, whether you are writing the articles yourself or hiring a professional to write and submit them for you, the whole idea is to get your articles picked up by Google and boost the search ranking of your online business, right?
So, why not just cut to the chase with Google’s new article database, Knol?
According to Google, a knol is an “authoritative article about a specific topic.”
The guidelines for submitting articles to Knol are quite simple and lenient. Basically, you can write about anything you want to, within the usual boundaries. In other words, topics like child pornography, etc. are not allowed.
Google isn’t actively promoting the site as yet. It may skyrocket, or sort of fizzle out like Froogle. There’s no way to know either way. But it’s free to submit to Knol, and it’s affiliated with Google which can’t be bad for anybody in ecommerce, so why not give it a try?
An added plus is that since Knol is laid out a bit like Wikipedia, it gains some credibility over some of the usual garden variety article marketing websites.
If you want to publish an article on Knol, you will begin by choosing a category. If there isn’t an existing category, you are at liberty to add one.
There are some rules to follow when writing an article for Knol:
From Knol: “There are some commercial uses we don’t allow. We don’t allow pages that have the primary purpose of redirecting visitors, acting as a bridge page, or driving traffic to another website. We also don’t allow Knol pages that have the primary purpose of profiting from displaying ads from any publisher network, such as pages created with little or no unique content that exist only to display ads."
You are cautioned not to write an article for Knol as though for a blog. Knol articles aren’t as casual as blog articles, for one thing, and they’re also supposed to be informative and educational.
Knol seems like a great place to post an article about the subject nearest and dearest to your e-heart. One such article, entitled “SEO 101” has had 57,000 views since January 2009.
Not bad!
