eCommerce Tips to Boost Valentine’s Day Sales!

The hectic ecommerce Christmas rush is over, but we are just around the corner from the second largest gift-buying holiday of the year: Valentine’s Day.

You might be getting a little tired from all the hustle and bustle during the Christmas holidays, but now is not the time to kick back and put your feet up for a long break, regardless of how well deserved it may be.

Instead, follow these tips to boost your online store sales for Valentine’s Day:

Change your store theme and ads---get rid of Christmas and all the Santa Claus stuff, and change it to hearts and Cupids! Part of the psychology of sales is setting the mood for your customers to get them receptive to what you are selling. Giving your site and your ads a Valentine-ish theme will remind those shoppers that February 14th will be here very soon, which might be the nudge someone needs to go ahead and make a purchase for the most romantic holiday of all.

Make sure that you have the right sort of items to sell for Valentine’s Day, if possible. Lingerie, perfume, candy…all those are good sellers. Bear in mind that most of your customers will be male, and plan accordingly. Also, it would behoove you to remember that men will often buy what appeals to them in the way of lingerie for their significant other…not necessarily what their beloved would choose for herself. So, this is probably not the holiday to stock up on modest, high necked, flannel Granny nightgowns. Opt for sheer and see-through instead!

Don’t forget to offer e-gift cards and certificates as almost 65% of shoppers will wait until the week before Valentine’s Day to buy gifts. Many will cut it even closer than that, and wait until literally the very day of the holiday, and if you don’t have e-gift certificates to offer these Buyer-come-latelys, you’ll probably miss a sale.

Plush toys with cutesie romantic sayings are quite popular as valentine’s day gifts, so do have a few styles to offer if possible.

If you have some flexibility in what you sell in your online store, do stock up on things to sell for Valentine’s Day, and watch your sales soar!
