eCommerce: Why People Aren’t Buying From You

If your ecommerce sales figures are down, and you can’t seem to figure out exactly what you’re doing wrong, the first thing to do is check the technical aspects of your website.

If all the techy stuff is working correctly, then it’s something else.

But what?

Here are the top reasons why people don’t buy from a business:

  • They don’t feel safe on your website. Despite the growing popularity of online buying, many consumers still don’t feel 100% safe about shopping online. To get their business, you have to make them feel completely safe and secure on your site. Make sure that you have trust and security symbols prominently displayed on all pertinent pages, especially checkout.

  • Your ads just don’t cut the mustard. People need a reason to want to buy from you and you are the one that has to supply that reason. Is your ad copy dull, boring and unappetizing? Does it make people want to buy from you by giving them an incentive and/or a good reason to shop with you? If not---fix it!

  • Your website is sloppy and unprofessional looking. Even in the virtual world, your appearance speaks volumes about who and what you are, and this very much applies to your online business. If your website is cluttered, messy, disorganized and full of misspelled words and typos, why on earth would anyone want to buy from you? They would probably assume that if your website is inferior, so are your products.

  • Your ads are good but you’re targeting the wrong audience. If you are trying to sell snow blowers to customers in Hawaii, you are going to fall flat on your face regardless of how tasty and appealing your ads might be. Make sure that you target your ads at the appropriate group of buyers.

  • You aren’t giving a strong enough call to action. It is human nature to procrastinate, and this is applicable to online buying, too. In order to get people to commit to buy now, you must create a sense of urgency. You can do this by offering an incentive such as free shipping for a limited time or on a first order, or something along that line. But give shoppers a reason to go ahead and complete the sale!

Take a look at your website and see what you can do to improve in these areas, and watch your sales improve!
