An integral part of your ecommerce dropship business is having effective web content!

Content is still king, and good or bad web content can literally make or break your online business.

In general, there are some fundamental rules to observe when writing content for your ecommerce website. Here are some handy tips to help you maximize your web content:

Keep it simple! Short sentences, short paragraphs; avoid overly technical jargon or great big words. Write on a third or fourth grade level, which will mean that more people will be able to scan your content and get the most out of it. Remember that online viewers seldom actually read---they scan. So, by keeping it simple, you are facilitating the scanning.

Be original! There is a tendency when getting your items from a dropship supplier to use their product descriptions, but unless they are exceptionally good, you shouldn’t do this. Write your own original product descriptions. This will help you stand out from the pack of your competitors, and gain points for you with the search engines, as well, because they love original content! Besides, when you write original descriptions, you can incorporate more of your keywords and help maximize your SEO. Your ecommerce dropship business will benefit greatly from this!

Continually add fresh, new content! Besides making you the darling of the search engines, your visitors and repeat customers will like it, too. Be aware that going in and revising old content and making some minor changes is not considered fresh content.

Use your best keywords in headings, if possible, and make the text larger than the rest of the content on the page. This gets your keywords more attention, and places more importance on them, too.

Putting top keywords in italics or bold within your content will also make them more important and stand out more. But be judicious! You don’t want to over-do the use of bold and italics as it makes your content look too “hypey.”

Writing effective web content isn’t easy, but you don’t have to be William Shakespeare to do it, either.
