Facebook has come out with a new feature called the “Like” button which can be of great help with social media marketing!
What is the Like Button?
From Facebook:
“The Like button enables users to make connections to your pages and share content back to their friends on Facebook with one click. Since the content is hosted by Facebook, the button can display personalized content whether or not the user has logged into your site. For logged-in Facebook users, the button is personalized to highlight friends who have also liked the page.”
Apparently Facebook looked over FriendFeed’s similar feature and liked what they saw enough to incorporate this feature into their own social site.
Members are allowed to apply the Like labels to photos, messages and other content as well.
Comparing the new feature to rating a restaurant, Leah Pearlman of Facebook described it this way in a recent blog post:
“We've just introduced an easy way to tell friends that you like what they're sharing on Facebook with one easy click. Wherever you can add a comment on your friends' content, you'll also have the option to click "Like" to tell your friends exactly that: "I like this."
This is similar to how you might rate a restaurant on a reviews site. If you go to the restaurant and have a great time, you may want to rate it 5 stars. But if you had a particularly delicious dish there and want to rave about it, you can write a review detailing what you liked about the restaurant. We think of the new "Like" feature to be the stars, and the comments to be the review.”
Now, if you’re wondering how this can be of use to an ecommerce entrepreneur in social media marketing efforts, the deal is that Facebook has made the Like button so that it can be used anywhere across the World Wide Web, not just on the Facebook site.
This is part of Facebook’s Open Graph API Project that will give third party websites an incentive to interact with Facebook by sharing content and relevant metadata.
The Like button is a social plug-in, you can imbed the widget on your website, blog, or wherever and when someone clicks it, it is shared with their friends on Facebook.
Fantastic marketing for your dropship business or other online enterprise and it’s free! Here is a video from YouTube that explains the Like button and also tells you how to add and use it:
