Dropship eCommerce: 7 Tips for Writing an Effective Call to Action

You may have great website content, a user friendly internal search engine and speedy checkout, plenty of trust and safety symbols and fantastic products at low prices, but if you don’t have an effective call to action wherever you need one---your conversion rate will suffer and you will lose dropship business sales you should have gotten!

Here are 7 tips to help you write an effective call to action that will motivate shoppers to buy:

1. Make them clearly visible! To be effective, a call to action must be prominently and strategically displayed so that a shopper can see it immediately.

2. Target your buyers! Your call to action will vary depending on what you are selling. If it is a low risk item such as name brand dog food, for example, there will be fewer stages in the buyer cycle that you must address compared to buying a car or a vacation home in the south of France.

3. Limit viewer choices! Don’t offer too many choices or calls to action on the same page. This often confuses and/or overwhelms shoppers. Keep the choices straightforward and simple for best results.

4. Use the KISS principle! As above, keep it simple. Don’t make your shopper have to think too hard about buying from you, otherwise you are liable to lose his or her attention and a sale. Show what you are offering, the price, what problem it will solve for the customer or how it will meet the customer’s needs, then ask for the sale with a strong call to action.

5. Make your calls to action explicit and create a sense of urgency! This is no time to be ambiguous. Your call to action buttons should leave no doubt whatsoever what the buyer should do NOW. For instance, never use “Click Here” as a call to action. Instead, use “Buy Now” or “Add to Cart.”

6. Location, location, location! Just as in real estate, location is everything for a call to action button. Keep it above the fold, which means on the top half of the web page where it will be seen immediately.

7. Test Results! Create two good, strong, different calls to action and then use A/B testing to determine which one works best, then use it exclusively.

Having a great call to action will work wonders for boosting sales in your online dropshipping business or other ecommerce endeavor!
