eCommerce: How to Improve Your Bounce Rate & Make More Dropship Sales

One of the primary factors you should be tracking and analyzing on your ecommerce dropship business website is your bounce rate!

What is a Bounce Rate?

The bounce rate is what percentage of visitors leave your site after 10 seconds or less, or after viewing just one page.

Obviously, if this is a high percentage, you have a seriously leaky bucket and need to go about plugging those leaks and figuring out exactly what you are doing wrong post-haste.

The place to start improving your bounce rate is your landing page or pages.

Here are some reasons for high bounce rates:

  • Mismatched Visitor Expectations: This is what occurs when viewers click on a specific ad or respond to an email newsletter expecting to find the offer, content or products that interested them and find something else entirely.

  • Poorly Designed Website: If your website looks amateurish with a mishmash of poor grammar, misspelled words and annoying pop-ups and flashing buttons, it is a signal to many people to hit the back button as fast as possible and get the heck out of there before getting a computer virus or their information hacked. You must have a professional looking website that inspires trust.

  • Irrelevance in Search Results: This occurs when a visitor gets search results that are not actually relevant to search terms used. Search engines do a good job overall of returning highly relevant search results, but sometimes they drop the ball (eBay has this dropping the ball stuff down to a fine art) and then you will end up with a visitor who has no interest whatsoever in your business. So, they leave without collecting $200 or passing Go. Just Adios and they’re out of there. Basically, there isn’t anything you can do about this except make sure to have great SEO and PPC ads, and to use keywords that accurately reflect what you are selling.
  • No or Low-Impact Calls to Action: You need strong, clear calls to action on any landing page! If the viewer is responding to a certain offer or product promotion, they should arrive on a landing page specific to that offer or promotion, and there should be call to action buttons prominently displayed.

Improvement in these areas will help to improve your bounce rate and boost your bottom line in profits for your ecommerce dropshipping website or other online business.
