Here are 7 tips that will help you improve the conversion rate on your ecommerce website:

1. Use A/B testing to determine which PPC ads, landing pages, content and email marketing newsletters perform the best and produce the highest conversion rates.

2. Use analytics to see where your visitors click or don’t click, and where they leave your website. This knowledge is crucial. If you don’t know what’s wrong, you can’t fix it.

3. Surveys: Offer some incentive to get your website visitors to take a short survey in which they answer pertinent questions about why they bought or didn’t buy, what would have made them more likely to purchase, and so on.

4. Be a copycat. This is generally considered a bad thing, but it really isn’t. Keep a watchful eye on your competition to see what tactics are working for them, and adopt/adapt them for your own.

5. Test which of your products sells the best and examine the copy, product descriptions and calls to action to see if this is what is making the difference. If you identify a formula that is a proven winner---stick with it and use it for all of your products. If it doesn’t work on some of your products, you should probably think about deleting them from your virtual store shelves and replacing them with something that will perform better for you.

6. Test promotions, freebies, coupons and offers to see which engender the highest percentage of click throughs and sales.

7. Monitor your internal search function to see what visitors are looking for. Maybe you have a low conversion rate because you don’t have what people want. If that’s the case---get it!
