Ramp up eCommerce Dropshipping Sales with a Streamlined Checkout

If your ecommerce dropshipping sales are not as good as they could be due to a high percentage of abandoned shopping carts, the problem might be in your checkout process.

Too many times, an online business will get a potential customer all the way to paying for something they have in their shopping cart, and then lose the sale at the 11th hour because of a slow, confusing, too-much-hassle checkout process.

Your analytics will tell you if this is true for your ecommerce website.

If it is, then here are some tips to help you streamline your checkout process and stop losing sales that should have been in the bag:

  • Don’t force people to supply too much information. For instance, of course you want them to opt-in to your email subscription list, but checkout is neither the time or the place for it. Get the sale completed and payment through, and then worry about email subscriptions. Ditto for asking for a date of birth. It’s fine to get a birth date so that you can send someone a virtual birthday card on down the road with a special offer from your website, but you don’t need it during checkout.

  • Don’t make it too complicated for someone to edit the shopping cart. They should be able to add, and delete or change quantities without a bunch of hoops to jump through. Keep it easy and simple!

  • Don’t make shoppers go back to square one in the checkout process if they forgot to fill in a zip code or state, or anything else along that line. Many big online retailers do this and it is highly annoying! If someone forgot a piece of information, only require that the missing info be filled in, and please do show them where it is that something is missing. Highlight it in red or whatever, but make it clear exactly what they skipped. Don’t make them look for it.

  • Offer several payment options. Make it easy for someone to pay you!

  • Display trust and safety symbols prominently on your checkout page! This is a biggie because the greatest thing you will have to overcome with the average online shopper is lack of trust and concerns about site security. Display your contact information prominently on the checkout page, as well, which is part and parcel of engendering trust.

If you aren’t careful, your checkout process can become the Bermuda Triangle of your website where visitors are lost forever, never to be seen again.

Use these tips to help streamline the checkout on your ecommerce dropship website and watch your sales soar!
