Dropship Tips: ECommerce Merchants---Are You Ready for Web 3.0?

Web 2.0 brought a lot of improvements to the World Wide Web, and Web 3.0 will have an even bigger effect on your dropship business and the way internet users browse and shop online!

What is Web 3.0?

Web 3.0, also known as the “Semantic Web,”  which is a term first used by Sir Tim Berners-Lee, World Wide Web Consortium director.

Basically, the whole idea of Web 3.0 is that machines will be able to read web pages in a similar manner to the way we humans read them, and search engines will crawl the internet to find what a user is looking for.

Think of it as a new set of standards that will turn the entire World Wide Web into a humongous data base.

For example, if you wanted to see a particular movie and eat dinner at a Chinese restaurant, you would merely type in what you want to do in a search engine box, such as “I want to watch Blahblah movie and eat dinner at a Chinese restaurant near the theater.”

Then, Web 3.0 would tell you the closest theater showing the movie you wanted to watch, as well as the closest Chinese restaurant to the theater.

Internet researchers expect Web 3.0 to enable websites to interface with each other, process and share the data, and make informed decisions based on that information.

In other words, if you have previously read running watch reviews on a website, then a social shopping website might make intelligent recommendations for you, based on your prior action of reading reviews about a particular product.

What should you, an ecommerce merchant, be doing to get ready for Web 3.0?

For starters, if you haven’t already jumped on the social media bandwagon---start now!

Have customer reviews on your ecommerce website.

Acknowledge the growing trend toward mobile use of the internet, and make sure that your site allows users to browse, shop and purchase via a mobile device.

Make your customers’ experience on your website as personalized as you possibly can.

Make it easy for your site to be shared with sites such as Digg, Twitter, and more.

Get your online dropshipping business ready for Web 3.0 and catch the next big wave to hit the internet!
