Facebook VS Google: Who Will Be the Winner?

Facebook, the giant of the social sites, is going toe to toe with another giant: Google.

According to the CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook is on track to reach an astonishing milestone by next year. Mr. Zuckerberg told an audience at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festivals that Facebook will reach 1 billion users in the future. Currently, membership is doubling every six months.

Zuckerberg had this to say:

“It is almost a guarantee that it will happen. We are down to just four countries where we aren't the leading social network. If we succeed there is a good chance of bringing this to a billion people. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.”

Yes, indeed! It will be interesting to watch this unfold. So much for the Gloomy Gus and Debbie Downer predictions that Facebook and social media are nothing but a flash in the pan….a passing fad that will fizzle out soon.

This rapid growth has Facebook eyeing the $25 billion that Google rakes in on ads every year, and it seems that the social site is ready to go after a piece of that lucrative pie!

No doubt you have seen the Facebook “Like” buttons popping up all over the World Wide Web lately. Facebook is using these buttons to build a grouping of web pages much the same as how Google determines Page Rank by the way web pages are linked to each other.

Whenever a Facebook member clicks the Like button to indicate that they like a certain web page, that particular page will pop up in a Facebook search from that point forward.

Nick O’Neill from All Facebook says this:

“Under this system “link baiting” will give rise to “like baiting”, which is how Facebook determines the relevance of information. This has become a full scale attack on Google on all fronts at this point as Facebook has officially entered the internet search market.”

If this proves to be the case, you would be well advised to buckle down and start an all-out social media marketing campaign on Facebook for your online dropship website or other ecommerce business!
