Here are some basics about social media marketing geared toward beginners:
- Facebook---Facebook is one of the largest social media sites on the planet wit a current membership of over 850 million and still growing strong. Originally, Facebook was started to allow personal interaction, and it is still very strong in that area. However, in recent years it has expanded into an ecommerce platform as well and can be enormously helpful in building your dropship business. You can have contests, promotions, freebie give-aways, polls, surveys and so on to encourage Facebook members to visit and “Like” your business Fan Page. By adding links to your dropship website or items listed on eBay, Amazon, Bonanza or whatever venue you are using, you can greatly increase traffic and sales. Facebook is free to join and use.
- Twitter---Twitter is another social media site that is booming. Twitter messages are short, only 140 characters, and are called tweets. Celebrities tweet on Twitter. Many of the Big Box corporations maintain an active Twitter presence. Even the president tweets. You should, too. It is free to join and use and there are numerous free apps and services to help you make the most of your marketing efforts on Twitter. Your dropship business will benefit from being part of Twitter!
- Blogging---Although not a social media site, per se, blogging for your dropship business can be considered part and parcel of social media marketing. You can use a blog hosting service such as WordPress that won’t cost you a dime and blog away about your dropship products as well as relevant topics that ecommerce entrepreneurs might enjoy reading.
The main thing to remember about using any of these three methods of social media marketing is to be consistent. To be effective and yield the best results, you should post to your Facebook Fan Page at least once a day and ditto for Twitter. Ideally, your business blog should be updated with fresh, relevant content on a daily basis. You don’t have to write an epic masterpiece. In fact, long blog articles tend to lose a reader’s attention. Stick with posts about 350-500 words long and you’ll be fine.
Besides helping win friends (and customers) and influence people on social media sites and with your blog, you will also enhance and elevate your rankings in Google and other search engine results pages. This is a big benefit!
