Despite the seemingly never ending recession and climbing prices straight across the board on everything from food to fuel, retail and e-tail analysts have predicted a boost in revenues this year during the winter holiday shopping.
Using social media marketing to its best advantage can only help you because more and more people are engaging with social media as a way of getting recommendations about products to buy as well as exposure to online promotions. Here are some interesting (and heartening) factoids from Black Friday and the immediate holiday shopping that is taking place around the Thanksgiving holiday:
Based on data from Experian/Hitwise, the top 500 retail websites experienced a boost in shopping on Black Friday---an increase of 2%, in fact. On Thanksgiving day, with most folks at home for the holiday, online traffic showed a significant 9% increase, which is nothing to sneeze at! comScore has reported that online spending on Black Friday exceeded $815 million, making it the biggest shopping day to date for the 2011 winter holiday season. Ready for more good news that offers real hope the economy is finally improving? Black Friday spending this year was a tremendous 26% increase over Black Friday last year! comScore chairman, Gian Fulgoni had this to say:
"Despite some analysts' predictions that the flurry of brick-and-mortar retailers opening their doors early for Black Friday would pull dollars from online retail, we still saw a banner day for e-commerce with more than $800 million in spending. With brick-and-mortar retail also reporting strong gains on Black Friday, it's clear that the heavy promotional activity had a positive impact on both channels."
So, you may be thinking that this is all fine and good, but wondering what it has to do with beefing up social media marketing for your ecommerce dropship home business. In a nutshell, many internet retail analysts believe that social media accounts for a lot of this increase in online shopping. Here are a couple of timely tips to help optimize your social presence:
- To ensure that your dropship business is up to speed, make sure to include a sakes channel on such social sites as Facebook. Check out some of your competitors on Facebook and see what they’re doing to optimize their social presence in terms of building their dropship business and driving traffic to their products. If it seems to be working for them---follow suit!
- Bear in mind that according to research, the average Facebook member has at least 140 friends. With the Share button, if a Facebook member buys one of your dropship products, just think of the ripple effect as the news spreads through that person’s face book friends and their friends. So lead with your best punch and be sure to offer some of your best deals and hottest products on your Fan page!
Optimize your social media presence to get plenty of extra dropship sales during the holidays!
