Amazon---Amazon is HUGE. Absolutely humongous and still growing. In fact, Amazon has been eating eBay’s lunch for several years now. No surprise to seasoned eBay sellers, Amazon started leaving eBay in the dust shortly after the current CEO took the helm at the Bay with his disastrous “disruptive change” policy.

Now, if you want to leave eBay strictly for smaller fees, you’re out of luck at Amazon because the fee structure is about the same. That being said, there is more traffic than eBay and wonder of wonders---Amazon’s search engine actually works! This is a boon indeed to beleaguered eBay dropship sellers whose sales are down because shoppers are unable to find the products they have listed due to a woefully dysfunctional search feature.

Amazon has a ton of categories and will accommodate almost any dropship niche. As it will be much faster and easier to tell you which categories you can’t list under rather than the ones you can; here are some of the categories that are off limits on Amazon:

  • Alcohol
  • Gambling and Lottery
  • Animals
  • Human Parts
  • Burial Artifacts
  • Postage Meters and Stamps
  • Tobacco and Tobacco Related Products
  • Hazardous and Dangerous Items
  • Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia
  • Currency, Coin, Cash Equivalents
  • And More

Actually, not many more. If you are in doubt as to whether or not your dropship product is on the restricted list, you can contact Amazon and make inquiries.

If you are listing less than 40 items per month, you pay $0.99 per sale plus other selling fees. For more than 40 listings per month, you move up to the Professional rank and pay $39.99 per month plus other selling fees.

To add items to Amazon, here are your options:

  • Use the Add a Product feature on Seller Central to create one product at a time
  • Use the Seller Desktop, which is a free, easy-to-use desktop application that can be used to manage and upload inventory one product at a time or in bulk.
  • Use inventory files to create multiple products simultaneously.

You should be aware that customers may leave feedback on Amazon although it doesn’t seem to be the big deal it is on eBay. Amazon gives you a performance rating, same as eBay. In fact, eBay has attempted to pattern itself after Amazon without quite managing to do it well.
