Dropship Fitness Equipment for a Thriving Ecommerce Home Business

dropship fitness equipmentDid you know that you can dropship fitness equipment for a thriving ecommerce home business?

It’s true! Fitness equipment is big business with people all around the world becoming more and more health conscious. This is a niche with a huge global consumer demand and a dependable flow of traffic all year round.

If you dropship fitness equipment, you might want to narrow your focus a bit and not try to encompass the entire niche, as it is a very broad one. Trying to dropship fitness equipment of all types would be a mammoth undertaking and perhaps you would be better off to drill down within this broad niche to find and develop a lucrative sub-niche.

For example, here are some dropship fitness products that should be great sellers for you:

  • Kettlebells
  • Weights
  • Medicine Balls
  • Yoga Mats
  • Running Shoes
  • Sports Watches
  • And Much More

On the other hand, if you are the type of person who feels that not selling a wide variety of fitness products would be leaving money on the table, you could dropship as many types of products as you wanted to. This is especially easy with the dropship business model since you neither pay for inventory up front, or house it and ship it when sold. So, there are no worries about buying a lot of inventory and then getting stuck with some of it.

If you like to see the numbers before committing to a certain course of action and are interested in some sales stats that might show you the profitability of dropship fitness products, here is a report from the SFIA, (formerly SGMA) or Sports and Fitness Industry Association from 2012:

According to SGMA’s Manufacturers Sales by Category Report (2012 edition), manufacturers' (wholesale) sales of sporting goods equipment, fitness equipment, sports apparel, athletic footwear, and sports licensed merchandise in the U.S. totaled $77.31 billion in 2011 - a 4.2% increase over 2010 when wholesale sales were $74.19 billion.

“For the most part, sales in the sports and fitness industry continue to be a mirror image of the U.S. economy,” said SGMA President Tom Cove.  “As the economy begins to improve, Americans are more likely to spend more money on fitness equipment, sports gear, athletic clothing, and footwear.  Overall, sports participation remains strong and solid in the U.S. though there is room for growth.  We remain optimistic that 2012 will be a significant year of change for the sports industry as people are posed to be more active, play more and, hopefully, increase their spending on sports and fitness items.

Exercise equipment is a $4.49 billion business- up 3.4% from $4.34 billion in 2010. Treadmill sales account for 25.5% of that entire category. After treadmills, the next two largest fitness categories are elliptical machines ($1.06 billion) and exercise cycles ($484 million). Consumer/retail spending for exercise equipment accounts for just more than 75% of the entire exercise equipment category.  At the consumer level, the top three categories for sales gains were elliptical machines (up 7.1%), exercise cycles (up 5.3%), and treadmills (up 3.6%).”

Convinced? It seems pretty obvious that if you dropship fitness equipment, you will have a hot niche with a wealth of potential for sales and profits all year long!

Be sure to source your wholesale dropship fitness equipment from a reputable, established business that is a member in good standing of the Better Business Bureau. You should also make sure that you are getting true wholesale prices, or your profits won’t be enough to make your home dropshipping business viable.

You can build up a very nice income working from home if you dropship fitness equipment!
