dropshipping pet suppliesDropshipping pet supplies is a great ecommerce home business niche, so if you are longing to break away from your regular job and be your own boss---check it out!

In most parts of the civilized world, people have pets. This is a fact. And another fact is that most of the people who have those pets spend money on them. What does this mean to you, an aspiring ecommerce entrepreneur? It means that dropshipping pet supplies is a hungry niche with a tremendous global consumer demand and can keep you in plenty of traffic and sales year round.

Let’s take a look at some stats that will furnish you with a good idea about just how potentially profitable dropshipping pet supplies could be for you.

According to London based market research firm Euromonitor International, who has monitored the world pet market; trends are increasingly toward pet ownership as is spending for said pets.

Pet spending in the United States was an impressive $53.33 billion in 2012. The U.K. is another world leader in pet ownership. Nowadays, quite a few other countries are getting on the pet bandwagon. Worldwide sales of pet supplies and services totaled $81 billion in 2010, despite the global recession.

India, Russia, Brazil, Mexico, Viet Nam and China are all emerging fast as forces to be reckoned with in the pet supplies retail niche. Of course, with an ecommerce home business you have the whole world as your marketplace, so you can certainly market to countries all over the world.

Here is some interesting info from Global Pet Expo:

Bob Vetere, president and CEO of the American Pet Products Association (APPA), has announced that overall spending in the pet industry was at an all-time high in 2012, surpassing $53 billion.

The annual comprehensive spending and data report for the pet industry shows spending grew 4.7 percent from $50.96 billion in 2011 to $53.33 billion in 2012. APPA also projects a steady 4.1 percent growth rate through 2013, with over $55 and a half billion in overall pet spending.

Helping fuel the growth, the pet marketplace continues to attract a stream of entrepreneurs and investors introducing new, innovative products.

Pampering and gift giving also showed a stronger performance in 2012 and current trends indicate solid growth will remain in 2013.  Research also shows that more than half of pet products purchased are bought by consumers without kids. and that trend of fewer kids contributing to more pets will be key to growth and is a long term trend unlikely to reverse any time soon.

From the APPA (American Pet Products Association) comes these helpful figures:

Total U.S. Pet Industry Expenditures

Year                 Billion
2013                 $55.53 Estimate
2012                 $53.33 Actual
2011                 $50.96
2010                 $48.35
2009                 $45.5
2008                 $43.2
2007                 $41.2
2006                 $38.5
2005                 $36.3

You can see how pet ownership and spending has climbed steadily skyward since 1994!

This bit shows you what types of pets are in United States households:

Breakdown of pet ownership in the U.S. according to the 2011-2012 APPA National Pet Owners Survey

Dog                              46.3
Equine                          2.4
Freshwater Fish            11.9
Saltwater Fish               0.7
