Are You an eBay Lister or an eBay Seller?

So, are you an eBay lister, or an eBay seller?

There is a rather large difference between the two, you know.

With the latest fee hikes which have increased Final Value Fees enormously in many cases, plus the humongous, disorganized mishmash that is Best Match search, if you want to actually sell anything on eBay and make a profit---you’re going to have to put your shoulder to the wheel and also keep your calculator handy!

Otherwise, if you don’t watch your Ps and Qs, you’ll be listing everything but the kitchen sink but not selling anything.

In which case, you would be an eBay Lister instead of an eBay Seller.

Sales have dropped so low for many eBay sellers since the latest round of changes that eBay might soon start a new thing: Power Listers. You might have dreamed of being a Power Seller and fallen short, but not to worry, you could still be a Power Lister if you list enough auctions that close without a bid.

Oh, happy day!

But seriously, who wants to be a Lister instead of a Seller?

Nobody, including you!

So, now more than ever, if you want to succeed on eBay, you absolutely must keep your eye on the ball and the bottom line. Pennies make dollars, and with the outrageous listing and final value fees, plus Pay-Through-The-Nose-Pal fees---it is difficult to make a profit.

One thing to think about is offering free shipping. Yes, eBay is promoting and pushing free shipping like it’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. But, is it really a good thing?

Well, yes, it is a good thing. It’s a good thing for eBay because you have incorporated the shipping cost into your item price and so eBay---who doesn’t yet charge a fee on shipping charges---now gets their hand in your pocket for a few bucks more because the item price/final value fees will be higher.

But, is it a good thing for you?

It may not be. Don’t be nagged and coerced into offering free shipping unless you can do it profitably. Do the math and decide if giving free shipping is feasible for you.

If it isn’t, if it’s going to cut into your ever-dwindling profit, then charge for shipping and let eBay sing for its supper!

Keep accurate records of your eBay dropshipping business or other sales and make sure that your profit is acceptable.

Blog Your Way to Better eBay Sales!

Have you ever thought about having a blog to help promote your eBay store and boost sales?

If you haven’t given this matter some serious consideration, maybe you should!

After all, eBay is an ecommerce business, when all is said and done. Besides, since eBay doesn’t seem motivated to spring for any advertising these days, if you are a serious seller, you are probably going to be forced to drum up some business for yourself without any help from FeeBay.

Additionally, with the advent of the latest “disruptive innovation” on eBay wherein thousands upon thousands of store items were dumped into core listings, and the Google RSS feeds that don’t seem to be working anymore….you have little hope of keeping your head above water if you don’t provide your own lifeboat in the form of advertising to drive traffic to your listings.

So, why not a blog?

Whatever your field of expertise and your niche market on eBay might be, blog about it!

For example, if you sell collectibles such as Carnival glass, stamps, or any other items grouped in the collectibles category, you can bet that there will be plenty of interest in a blog about your items, simply by virtue of the fact that people collect them and are therefore interested in them.

Even if your category isn’t collectibles, no matter. If you can sell it, you can blog about it!

The key to using a blog to drive traffic to your eBay store and/or auction listings is to be consistent. Blog regularly, and blog often. You should experiment with articles to see which ones generate the most interest.

Don’t worry about running out of things to blog about. If you sell mostly vintage toys on eBay, for instance, think of that specific topic as the main trunk of a tree. Then, you can branch off in all sorts of directions with related topics!

WordPress will give you a great free blog with plenty of plug-ins and ways to customize it to make your blog uniquely your own. There are analytics available, too, so that you can gauge how well certain articles do as related to others.

Have a blog for your eBay dropshipping business or eBay store and boost sales!

SEO for eBay: How to Get Your Listings Seen by More Buyers

Now that eBay has made yet another change and dumped thousands upon thousands of store listings into the main search, it is going to be even more difficult than ever to get your auctions and Fixed Price listings seen.

It’s elementary, really---if nobody sees what you’re selling, nobody will buy what you’re selling.

If you aren’t already using SEO techniques in your eBay listings, it’s time to start! eBay has its own search, and using Search Engine Optimization will help you to get more visibility for your wares.

What Can You do To Improve eBay SEO?

First and foremost: Write great titles using SEO!

Your title is the biggie when it comes to getting seen on eBay. Good photos and an accurate description are vital to selling success as well as getting the best price for your widgets. But the listing title reigns supreme as the single most important thing in being found and seen.

You want to make sure that you make the most of every character in your title. Like Twitter posts, you are limited to how many characters you are allowed in an eBay title.

Actually, Twitter gives you 140 characters to get your message across and eBay only gives you 55 for your title. So, you need to write a title that packs a punch as succinctly as humanly possible.

Besides being brief, your title needs to utilize good keywords.

There are an unbelievable number of sellers on eBay who write awful titles! If you look at their completed sales for a two week period, you will almost always see that the items sold by these folks don’t fetch as good a price as similar items sold by sellers who wrote great titles.

For example, if you do a search in the Women’s Intimates category, you’ll probably see quite a few listings with this title or one very similar: “Women’s Button Front Sleep Shirt With Matching Long Pants.”

Ummm…..isn’t that pajamas?

Look at all those words wasted conveying what the seller is offering when one little word would have done it much, much better!

If you need help writing fantastic titles, go to the eBay Research Labs BayEstimator. It’s free and is enormously helpful! You simply type a title into the search box, click submit, and the estimator will return a whole set of results that show you the numbers on how popular your title words are in an eBay search.

You can then add, subtract or exchange words in your title to optimize it, and the BayEstimator will tell you exactly how much you have improved your title.

Any eBay seller can use this free tool and it works quite efficiently for everyone from dropship sellers to garage sale sellers!

Free Tools to Help Calculate Your eBay & Paypal Fees

Do you calculate down to the penny exactly how much profit you will make on your eBay items after all fees are paid, or do you just go with the flow and pocket whatever is left over?

It will be much better for your bottom line if you keep an extremely close eye on all fees!

Of course, if you are running auctions, there will be no way to figure your Final Value Fees in advance because you won’t know the ending price until the auctions are over.

But with Fixed Price and store items, you can easily calculate all of your expenses with this FREE calculator from Rolbe.

Not only will it calculate your fees, but you can also enter the amount you paid for the item, how much you are charging for shipping and handling, as well as how much the shipping and handling actually cost, your Powerseller Level, (if any) and whether or not you are a Top Rated Seller.

You may enter such things as any listing upgrades, which also come off your profit.

By tracking and monitoring all of your expenses and net profits, you might spot a dud of a product that is underperforming for you. This simply means an item that---by the time you deduct all expenses, fees, and your time to list, ship, etc.---isn’t paying enough in the final analysis to make it worthwhile continuing to sell it.

On eBay, anyway.

You can find a variety of free calculators on this website!

Besides an eBay fee calculator, there are many other fee calculators including:

  • Amazon
  • Bidpay
  • Half.com
  • eBay Stores
  • eBay Motors
  • Etsy
  • Overstock
  • ePier
  • Paypal

Especially now, with the new and definitely NOT improved eBay fees going into effect today, it is vitally important to keep up with all of your expenses and your net profits on each and every widget you sell!

The eBay and PayPal calculators would come in quite handy if you were looking for dropshipping items to sell, and wanted to quickly and easily figure how much profit you could expect from each item on your list of possibilities!

All of these calculators are 100% free, but if you like them and find one or more of them useful, you might consider making a small donation to the website.

Between FeeBay and Pay-through-the-nose-Pal, you might be making far less profit than you realize if you haven’t been tracking it.

Tips for eBay Sellers: Only the Strong Survive

If you are an eBay seller, you probably don’t need anybody to tell you that it’s getting tougher all the time to keep afloat on the Bay.

Many eBay sellers have jumped the fence for greener pastures such as Amazon. However, since Amazon doesn’t allow sales of vintage and collectible items for the most part, you may be one of the unfortunate sellers who are well and truly stuck with eBay.

Yes, there are other venues. But realistically speaking, none of them are much competition for FeeBay, at least for the time being.

So, if you must sell on eBay, how can you continue to make a decent and reasonable profit?

How can you avoid getting suspended or restricted in your selling due to a run of bad luck with undeserved low feedback and DSR ratings from a mere handful of PITA buyers?

It won’t be easy.

After the newest changes go into effect next month, it will be extremely difficult. Fees are increasing (surprise, surprise) and the bar has been raised even higher as regards feedback and Detailed Sellers Ratings.

Most of you can kiss any kind of discount off your Final Value Fees goodbye.

The long and short of it is that making it as an eBay seller has turned into the Law of the Jungle where only the strong survive.

So, you will have to be strong, and you will have to be extremely proactive.

You will have to be strong about your work ethics and practices. For example, if you say you will ship within a certain time frame, then do so. Don’t specify a time of 3 business days for shipping, for instance, and then dawdle around for a week or longer before shipping a buyer’s widget.

Don’t charge for Priority Mail and then ship Parcel Post, which is not only cheaper but also takes considerably longer.

Don’t be slipshod in your packaging and try to shave a few cents off expenses by stuffing items in a Priority Mail tyvek envelope turned wrong side out and shipping it First Class. This is not only illegal, it tells the buyer that you are dishonest. After all, if you’ll rip off the USPS, why not them?

Your packages should be professional looking and secure. If it takes an extra few minutes to package well, then take the time and do it.

Don’t leave your buyers in the dark about when you shipped their widget. Send a message and let them know it’s on the way. It takes a little more time, but it will be time well spent. Remember that they will rate you on communication.

Don’t forget one of the most basic but incredibly overlooked things that you should ALWAYS do for your buyer, and that is to say “Thank you.” It is absolutely amazing how many sellers fail to do this and it’s really stupid not to.

Being strong in your professional conduct as a seller, instead of taking the easy shortcuts of poor service to your buyers, will stand you in good stead on eBay.

It may not be enough to completely eliminate any problems with buyers, bad feedback and Detailed Seller Ratings, but it will definitely help!

Make More Money on eBay with These Dropship Secrets!

eBay sellers, you can make more money on eBay if you use these simple dropship secrets!

People all over the world, from all walks of life, are taking advantage of the rich possibilities offered in dropship sales to make a tidy income on eBay.

You might be amazed at how very little money you have to spend in order to start selling high quality, name brand products supplied by a reputable source such as DropShip .

If you are unfamiliar with how dropshipping works, the easiest and probably best explanation of dropshipping is that you sell things you don’t have.

Not only do you sell products you don’t literally have, you aren’t bogged down in the financial outlay and work of housing this inventory of products, or the expense and drudgery associated with packaging and shipping them after they are sold.

Your dropship products source will take care of all that for you!

Many eBay sellers are doing very well for themselves with dropship sales, and so can you. You just need to know how to go about things.

Here are three simple secrets of being a successful eBay seller using dropshipping:

1. Know what’s hot! Because a business in dropship sales is such a lucrative opportunity, you will have plenty of competition on eBay. So, make it your business to research and find out what products are the hottest sellers on eBay. When you know which items are most in demand, you will know which items you need to be selling. It’s a simple as that. Success in sales depends on the law of supply and demand. eBay sales are no exception. If there is a huge demand for a particular product, and you are supplying it---you will do well.

2. Write good sales copy! Instead of merely copying and pasting the descriptions of your products straight from your supplier’s website, write your own. Dress them up! Make them sing! You can bet that many of your competitors will not trouble to do this, so by writing original and better sales copy, you will gain a competitive edge. If writing isn’t your forte, hire it done. It will be well worth the investment in increased sales!

3. Give superior customer service! Always remember this old axiom of sales: “Business goes where it’s invited, and stays where it’s well treated.” This is applicable to eBay, too. Treat your customers well and you will be well rewarded by gaining repeat customers, and growing by word-of-mouth, which is the best advertising there is.

Those three “secrets” of successful dropship eBay sellers will provide you with a great income!

Dropship Secrets for eBay Sellers

Well, there probably aren’t any actual dropship secrets for eBay sellers, but there are some tips and pointers that can help you increase sales and hopefully keep your Detailed Seller Ratings and feedback up to eBay’s near-impossible standards.

Being an eBay seller is tough these days.

It’s not only tough for dropship sellers, but for almost everybody. Unless you are one of the huge companies that eBay is wooing with free listings and reduced fees; you’re not going to have a smooth ride.

However, there is still a LOT of money to be made as an eBay seller, and dropshipping is still one of the easiest and most hassle-free ways to sell!

Here are a few random pointers for how to increase sales as an eBay dropship seller:

  • As a general rule, don’t use the images from the dropship website. Instead, order at least one of every product you are going to sell, and take your own photos. You aren’t wasting the money because (a) it will make you money in the long run to have your own photos and (b) you can still sell the widgets after you’ve made the pictures, and get your money back. There are a lot of dropship sellers on eBay. Most of them will take the easy road and use the stock photos from the dropship supplier’s website. You can give yourself a competitive edge by using your own photos.

  • Ditto for descriptions. Write your own instead of simply copying and pasting the ones from the dropship website. If you don’t feel up to the task, hire a freelance writer to do this for you. It will be a small investment that will pay you back in big dividends. Again, as with the photos, most other dropship sellers on eBay selling identical products as you are will opt for the easy way out and use the stock product descriptions. Here is another opportunity for you to rise above the rest!

  • In order to survive as an eBay seller these days, you have to be very proactive in attempting to manage your feedback and Detailed Seller Ratings, as much as possible. One way to try and protect yourself from a dishonest, unreasonable, impossible to please buyer is to check the feedback they are leaving for other sellers. You can learn a lot from this! If a buyer is leaving a disproportionately high amount of bad feedback---run for your life! Always try to check bidders in time to cancel the bids of anyone like this before they ruin your feedback the way they have other helpless sellers. If they do a Buy It Now, you’re basically stuck and all you can do is hope they’ll be merciful. If you see that someone is a bad bidder, add the m to your Blocked Bidders list after you cancel their bid.

You can make a bundle of money as a dropshipping seller on eBay, if you put in a little extra effort to market your items better than the competition, and try to weed out bad buyers!
