Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Google Plus One Explained

Google Plus One dropgsip ecommerce businessWhat is Google Plus One and how can it benefit your ecommerce dropship business?

In many ways, the Google +1 button works in a similar fashion as the Facebook Like button. When an online user does a Google search, they are able to click the +1 button next to any of the search results. In much the same way as the Facebook Like button, any Google search results that you click the +1 button for will be shared with your immediate network of contacts within Google.

This helps your dropship business if someone clicks this +1 button next to your Google search result because it is shared with that person’s network of Google users. If that was the extent of it, it would be helpful to some extent. But, there’s more.

Here is what Google has to say about their Google Plus One:

“They can appear in Google search results, on ads, and sites across the web. You’ll always be able to see your own +1's in a new tab on your Google Profile, and if you want, you can share this tab with the world.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, social Plus One buttons, similar to those of Digg, StumbleUpon, and Facebook Share buttons, will be coming to websites near you soon. Here is a quote from the article in the Wall Street Journal and their reference to Google’s Matt Cutts:

“Over the coming months, the project also will allow website publishers including news sites and blogs to install buttons with a “+1? logo on their Web pages so that Google users could click on them to signal that they liked a particular page and share that information with their social network inside of Google, Mr. Cutts said.”

Here is a very helpful video from Google that explains how to use the Plus One feature:

The idea behind Google Plus One is that it will provide more socially targeted ads.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: New Facebook Changes for Marketing

social media marketing dropship ecommerce facebookFacebook has made quite a few recent changes to the site that impact the developer platform, individual profiles and pages that you need to know about if you are using the social site as part of your social media marketing campaign for your dropship or other ecommerce home business.

Besides making changes to various applications, including developer testing and insights, changes to the way Facebook Pages are displayed in news feeds may also be something you should be aware of in order to stay up to date.

Facebook is now showing a new sort of news feed story that will link to a Page when multiple friends post updates that mention the name of the Page, even if they don’t tag it. The story will read like this: (Friend's name) and (xxx) other friends posted about (name of Page) and the Page’s name will be linked.

The “Posted About” news feed story tells us all  that Facebook is using a natural language processing system on status updates to perform named entity recognition. It will help users to determine topics that are trending within their group of friends and help the Pages representing these topics gain more fans, as well.

Another change: Facebook has recently made improvements to insights for apps through a news feed. When you click on the app insights tab, you now see a news feed that contains a summary of both your positive and negative posts. This is helpful for developing applications because it lets you get feedback on the app in real time. Plus, you can see at a glance how many times the app has been reported as spam. When marketers are experimenting with new ways to win fans and create an app that will be shared, it’s vital to get real time feedback so you know how users are responding to it. You can access the feedback through the news feed for the application.

Keeping abreast of changes to Facebook that will affect your marketing efforts is essential to building your ecommerce dropship business!

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Pointers for Video Marketing

video marketing dropship ecommerce businessVideo marketing can be a big part of your social media marketing efforts and help to increase both traffic and sales to your dropship or other ecommerce enterprise.

YouTube is, of course, the name that immediately springs to mind for most of us when we think of video marketing. And there is no doubt that video marketing on YouTube is an extremely effective weapon in your arsenal of targeted marketing techniques.

However, you can also use video marketing in other places besides YouTube to help boost your business and build your brand.

Here are some pointers to help you use video social media marketing effectively in your dropship home business:

  • Be choosy about who stars in your marketing videos. If you are a one person business, you can surely scare up somebody with a big smile to be your video cheerleader and star in your productions. If you would prefer to have the starring role yourself because you think you can make a better video with more enthusiasm and knowledge than anybody else, you don’t even need a second person to aim the camera if you have one with a timer.

  • Now, bearing in mind that you can be the lone star of your marketing video, or only have one person appearing, you may also include others in your productions if possible, at least occasionally. A video would be a great place to show an interview with another person about your dropship business. It might be someone who is thinking of starting a dropship home business themselves and you could go for a question and answer session about how to get started.

  • Have various types of marketing videos. For instance, you could do how-tos that might show the process of adding your dropship products onto eBay or Amazon. Tutorials are also nice, and people appreciate instructional material that spells something out in one neat package.

  • Have a whole series of interconnected videos, sort of like sequels to the main video. This will keep viewers coming back for more.

  • Use videos as part of your social media marketing efforts. Include videos on your Facebook page, for example.

Video marketing can help tremendously in the growth and success of your ecommerce dropship business.

SEO Twitter Tips: Social Media Marketing for Ecommerce Dropshipping

SEO Twitter dropshipping ecommerceFacebook and Twitter are two of the biggest and most influential social sites on the World Wide Web, so using SEO for social media marketing in your ecommerce dropshipping business is a smart thing to do.

Twitter is a little more challenging than Facebook because you are limited to 140 characters per tweet. Still, there are things you can do to use SEO best practices on Twitter that will help to build your brand and promote your dropshipping business.

Here are some SEO tips for Twitter that you might find useful in your social media marketing efforts:

  • Choose your Twitter handle, or user ID, wisely. Make it relevant to your business and easy for other users to remember. Your Twitter handle will be included in the SEO title for your tweets as they appear in Google search results.

  • Be selective about who you follow. A good rule of thumb is to confine those you follow to users who are relevant to your business or only share tweets about similar interests. The search engines will rank your Twitter profile link higher when you have good quality followers.

  • Since you only have 140 little characters for your message, always use a URL shortening service such as bit.ly or something similar and use 301 permanent redirect. These shortening services redirect users to your real URL and provide a backlink to your content. Shortening your URL gives you more room for content in your tweets.

  • Try to incorporate at least one of your prime keywords into your tweets. This isn’t always possible, but do your best. When you are going to include keywords in your tweets, try to do so in the first 27 characters of the content. This is the part that will become the title on your static Twitter pages.

Using SEO best practices on Twitter and your other social community platforms for marketing is a wise move! It serves a dual purpose of boosting your rankings in the search engines while doing all the other good stuff social media marketing accomplishes for your dropshipping business.

3 Social Media Marketing Tips for Your Ecommerce Dropship Business

dropship ecommerce home business social mediaIf you have a dropship or other ecommerce business, you should be leveraging the awesome power of social media marketing to boost sales.

Social media isn’t just a flash in the pan or a passing fad. It is here to stay and if anything, gaining ground every day as more and more people all around the world join in the online social scene.

These people are potential customers. To reach them, you need to be where they are, and in many cases---that place is a social site.

A savvy entrepreneur is always open for ways to market a dropship home business, so you might be interested in these 3 tips to help you boost the effectiveness of your social media marketing efforts:

1. Remember that people buy under the influence of others. W. Clement Stone, the founder of Combined Life Insurance, built a massive business based on this principle by sending his agents door to door in communities and showing prospective policy holders the names of local people who had Combined insurance. This technique is tremendously effective! Purely psychological, but peer influence is undoubtedly huge. People see that someone they know, or at least know of, has bought a product and they think: “That’s for me!” Social communities work in much the same way. The peer network is a force to be reckoned with! So, tap into it by running a Facebook or Twitter promotion site members will share with others and you can make the most of peer influence.

2. Give them something to talk about and a way to share and pass it along. This might be a promotion, contest or giveaway, coupon, or even a funny story or video, an interesting or informative article---whatever. The main thing is to post something on a social site that will be passed along and make it easy for viewers to share by imbedding the widgets to do so.

3. Don’t just talk at your social site fans, followers and visitors…talk to them and with them. Engage! Ask and answer questions, make comments, make communication a two-way thing and social media marketing will work much better for you. Bear in mind that you don’t want to be too salesy or overly focused on peddling and promoting your business. Yes, you want to build your brand and increase sales, but you’ll be more successful at that on social sites by being sociable.

5 Tips to Improve Your Ecommerce Dropship Business Blog

dropship business blogBlogging is good for your ecommerce dropship business, and many marketers use a blog to help build their brand and gain customers.

Blogging can be considered a part of social media marketing, especially if it’s done right. You can link your blog to your Facebook business page and vice versa for even more exposure.

While your blog shouldn’t focus on trying to sell your dropship products, you can still work in enough content to help your business and boost sales by having interesting and informative blog posts.

Blogging is also an excellent way to increase your rankings with Google and the other search engines. Google wants fresh, relevant content---especially since the Caffeine update that puts a lot of emphasis on high quality content.

Here are 5 tips to help you improve your online dropship business blog:

1. Make your blog easy to share! Imbed the widgets for Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other sites. This will help immeasurably in getting exposure for your blog and consequently…your dropship business.

2. Make it user friendly! Tempting though it may be to share your favorite music---don’t. If you feel an overwhelming compulsion to share music with others, start a blog just for that purpose. Your dropship business blog is not the place for it. Many people find it extremely annoying to suddenly have music blasting at them on a website. This is not the way to win friends and influence people. This also applies to your political or religious views, as well as your opinions about global warming (or the lack of it) and everything in between.

3. Don’t get too personal! Yes, it’s your blog, but remember…it’s for business, not pleasure. So, don’t post the pictures someone took of you at your cousin’s wedding after you had finished 3 bottles of champagne and decided to do a table dance to entertain the guests.

4. Always use great SEO! After all, you have a business blog to help grow your dropship business, so play it smart and pay close attention to your blog content so that it’s optimized for your primary and best long tailed keywords, etc. In general, stick with having your main keywords comprising about 2% of the content. In an article of 500 words or so, this comes out to 10 times.

5. Include an RSS widget so that readers can get your feeds! You might be surprised how many folks will want to read your blogs on a regular basis if you make them interesting.

A blog can boost sales in your home dropship business, so if you aren’t already blogging; get one started and use these tips to make it work for you.

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Have a Facebook Contest to Build Your Brand

Facebook contest dropship businessChances are you are already doing some social media marketing on Facebook if you have a dropship or other ecommerce business, but have you thought about having a contest to liven things up a bit?

Most human beings love contests!

Dogs, cats, horses and other animals may like contests, too. It’s hard to say as they can’t talk and tell us and besides---since our four legged friends can’t be our friends on Facebook, we don’t need to factor them into this sort of marketing effort, anyhow.

So, moving right along….most people enjoy contests and the prospect of winning something. As an added benefit, contests and the possibility of being a winner is also something that many of your existing dropship customers, as well as anyone who sees your contest posted on your blog, website or Facebook page; will pass along and share with others in their social circle such as friends, family and coworkers.

If you have a contest on Facebook to promote your ecommerce dropship business and build your brand, you can almost certainly count on gaining some new friends to sweeten the pot!

What Kind of Contest?

That’s essentially up to you. Give away something from your dropship business that won’t cost you too dearly, but don’t be a cheapskate and try to have a great contest by having a prize nobody wants.

Bear in mind that Facebook has rules about contests and promotions that must be adhered to. These rules were relaxed considerably last year when Facebook stopped requiring those who wanted to have a contest or promotion to get prior approval.

Still, there are a few reasonable guidelines to follow that can be found here

Once you have familiarized yourself with the rules and regulations and have decided what prize or prizes you plan to offer from your dropship products or other goodies, you can start setting up your Facebook contest.

Scads of the big mega corporations and brands that are household names such as Nabisco, Ford, Johnson & Johnson and many more are having giveaways on Facebook. To have a chance of winning, you are usually required to “Like” the page. You should probably follow their example. They have whole teams of professional social media marketers that really know what they’re doing. So if they think this is the best way to go, you would be well advised to follow their lead.

Think of how this will get your brand out there and promote your online dropship or other ecommerce business!

To set up your contest, just login to your Facebook dropship business page and enter the promotion details such as the prize/s, dates to enter and so on. Be aware that you are limited to 420 characters on your status updates, so keep it brief.

Once it’s all laid out the way you want it, click “Share” and Bob’s your uncle--your Facebook dropship business contest is underway!

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: When is the Best Time to Tweet on Twitter?

Twitter is one of the most popular social sites…ideal for anyone with a dropship or other ecommerce business to do some marketing, and knowing the best times to send out those Tweets can be very helpful!

There are those who believe that there is no one particular optimum time to send your tweets, and others who adhere to the firm belief that some times have definite advantages over others in terms of getting your tweets not only read, but retweeted.

Click Here For a FREE Social Media Marketing E-Book!

Bear in mind that several factors come into play when you are trying to determine the best time to send tweets to market your dropship business:

  • Your Time Zone
  • The Location of Your Followers
  • Your Target Market Audience
  • And More

As a general rule of thumb, some social media marketing experts think that the absolute, overall, very best single time to tweet is at 9:00 am Pacific Standard Time.

Why this time?

Because it’s when people on the West Coast and Canada are getting to work, it’s lunchtime on the East Coast (NYC, for instance) and it’s quitting time for our British cousins in London.

Now, let’s look at the best times to get retweeted: According to a study conducted by Fast Company, the optimum time to send a tweet and get retweeted is 4 pm Eastern Standard Time, on Friday; as shown in the two graphs below:

tweet best time and day resized 600

Some social media marketers have had great success in scheduling a succession of repeat tweets. This makes sense if you stop and think about it because this way, you could be fairly certain of catching your entire target audience at some point throughout the day, evening or night.

A word of caution, though…don’t send repeat tweets to the point of spamming! Maybe schedule your repeat tweets to be sent every 6-8 hours, for example, and no more than that.

Twitter can be a tremendously effective tool in your social media marketing efforts, and help grow your ecommerce dropship business!

Ecommerce Dropship Tips: Two Great Facebook Apps for Marketing

Facebook marketing dropship businessAnyone with a dropship or other ecommerce business should be doing social media marketing and Facebook is one of the best social sites available for this purpose.

Facebook has a lot of apps available for you to use, but some are better than others for marketing and promoting your business.

If you are new to social media marketing and just setting up a Facebook page for your dropship business, you want to be sure to keep your personal profile completely separate from your professional profile, for reasons which should be obvious to you.

There may be situations in life where you can combine business with pleasure, but Facebook probably isn’t one of them.

So, let’s assume that you have moved past the initial steps and are now in the process of setting up a Facebook page for your ecommerce business. You will see a link for “More Useful Apps.”

Click that link.

This will take you to a page with various free apps you can use to enhance your Facebook business page. You may want to use one or all of them, but if you don’t decide to use any others, do use these two:

  • iFrame Tab Application
  • Social RSS

What are these apps?

Static FBML is phased out on Facebook, so you will need to use the iFrame tab application to generate XFBML tag codes for things such as Like Buttons. To get the codes, simply navigate to Facebook’s Social Plugins page.

Once you have arrived at the Social Plugins page, you can choose which tag you want, enter the options on that particular tag’s page and then click “Get Code.”
Many people report that they like this new method better than the old FBML.

The second great app for Facebook is called Social RSS.

Social RSS will let you add your blog RSS feeds to your Facebook wall, boxes tab or a dedicated tab on your Facebook Page. It will update automatically and your Facebook fans can subscribe to your blog feeds if they so desire.

Using these two Facebook apps will help to make your social media marketing efforts more successful for your online dropship business!
